About this listen

Start-Up Nation addresses the trillion-dollar question: How is it that Israel - a country of 7.1 million, only 60 years old, surrounded by enemies, in a constant state of war since its founding, with no natural resources - produces more start-up companies than large, peaceful, and stable nations like Japan, China, India, Korea, Canada, and the UK?

With the savvy of foreign policy insiders, Senor and Singer examine the lessons of the country's adversity-driven culture, which flattens hierarchy and elevates informality - all backed up by government policies focused on innovation. In a world where economies as diverse as Ireland, Singapore, and Dubai have tried to re-create the "Israel effect", there are entrepreneurial lessons well worth noting. As America reboots its own economy and can-do spirit, there's never been a better time to look at this remarkable and resilient nation for some impressive, surprising clues.

Critic reviews

"There is a great deal for America to learn from the very impressive Israeli Entrepreneurial model - beginning with a culture of leadership and risk management. Start-Up Nation is a playbook for every CEO who wants to develop the next generation of corporate leaders." (Tom Brokaw)
"No one else, in my judgment, has written regularly about Israel in recent years with more clarity than Singer." (William Kristol, Editor, The Weekly Standard)

Well researched & narrated .

Israel as a start up nation in 2009 , flying .

In 2023 , one wonders how many start up companies formed , publicly listed & even foreign purchased .

Whatever it is that breeds the -training culture , the daring air , results are tremendous . The economy is near developed nation status .

Well done to Shimon Peres , the father of daringness culture .

Narration was great and the book was superb.

I'm religious and have always believed that Jews/Israel's success could be counted as one of those amazing miracles we see in the bible & continue to see in a nation whose very existence defies any logical explanation. This book however presents a very persuasive narrative with well-documented examples (which I googled of course) to drive home the point about this very unique country being a perfect hub for startup.

I also love the evaluative approach which took apart piece by piece why other similar countries failed to achieve any comparable result to Israel; and how this great country could lose its edge if care is not taken to anticipate the next wave of innovation. Definitely recommend this as a good read.

Beautiful book - Definitely a keeper

I thought this book would be about various startup company success stories but it surprised me. What this book revealed within its narrated pages, is an in-depth analysis of the conditions within Israel versus other countries and how and what has fostered innovation and start ups. Fascinating.

Fascinatingly woven together
