The idea of an audio version of 'Star Trek' shouldn't be dismissed. The series was always about ideas and was quite 'talky' on screen.
The script is good for a start, linking back to "Return to Tomorrow", with a similar alien able to keep his consciousness in a technological sphere to take over someone's mind, as well as discussing the idea of the Katra.
The story lingers on friendships and relationships, something 'Star Trek' was better at in story than it was off screen. Sulu's guilt and pain over the events of the story still feels real and the archaeologists messages home are warm and full of love for her granddaughter.
There is also the sense of technology moving towards the Next Generation era. Sulu clearly describes an LCARS terminal on his shuttle.
What is great though is how the story manages with only three voice actors (and four characters). It never feels forced and creates a template for further such audio adventures.
