Really captures Next Generation Season 1
This was not a bad story really. It captures the feeling of an early episode of Star Trek the Next Generation (TNG). Some people really like the stories of that era. I don't personally so I didnt love this book but I wont call it bad as it clearly is trying to capture the feel of early TNG. It is entertaining enough and I suspect there are people who would love this.
I think the voice acting is reasonably good with some good voice work for different characters. Jonathan Frakes is doing a good job. However, the audio quality isn't great. There is a background static that can be distracting and some sound effects that are obnoxiously loud drowning out some dialog. That is a real shame for the story and listeners.

a guaranteed good listen
Always enjoy the Star Trek novels. I like how Frakes can voice all the characters without overdoing, for example example, Captain Picard's British accent, but we sense the same authority and elegance from the actor we know.

Just not really very good
Jonathan Frakes is not a voice actor, and his voice is too distinctive and distracting when he is (poorly) imitating voices that are so well-known. It's a nice voice, just not one that works in this situation in my opinion.
And this is one of the lesser attempts at STNG fiction. Surprisingly, Tim Russ is a good narrator who subtly imitates the characters' voices. I'm listening to Genesis Wave and although it's not great literature it is enjoyable.
