About this listen

Stunningly honest and bursting with wit, Someday Maybe is the story of grief and resilience that you won't be able to stop talking about

Here are three things you should know about my husband:

1. He was the great love of my life despite his penchant for going incommunicado

2. He was, as far as I and everyone else could tell, perfectly happy.

3. On New Year’s Eve, he killed himself

And here is one thing you should know about me:

1. I found him.

Bonus fact: No. I am not okay

Eve is left heartbroken by her husband's unexpected death, but everyone around her–her friends, her boisterous British-Nigerian family, her toxic mother-in-law–seems to be pushing her to move on. Unable to face the future, Eve begins looking back, delving through the history of her marriage in an attempt to understand where it went wrong. So begins an unconventional love story about loss, resilience, and a heroine bursting with rage and unexpected joy.

Beautifully written. The characters were all so believable and so relatable. A difficult subject matter addressed with empathy, grit, warmth and an understanding. I love this story.
Thank you.

A beautifully real read.

I took a few months with this story. I had to listen to various parts on repeat. So poignant were the grief stories of this fictional character. And the many relations and friends who peppered this sweet tale. Lovely.

Nigerian and Global minority perspectives on grief

This book was recommended after another book I listened to and I have dealt with alot of grief in my time, so was slightly worried about this one.

Now.....no-one warned me I was going to be laughing while listening, this book was heartfelt, funny, warm, truthful and brilliant.

It absolutely pulled me right in with every word and the fact that there was no note......made it so real.

Thank you Oyni Nwabineli......the ending was perfect, I didn't feel like there was still more I needed to hear, it was satisfying perfect.......right onto her next book I good!! 😊😊☺️☺️

Just..........amazing!!

This author has a way with words that very few people ever achieve. This was a lovely story… a gentle meander through the lives of an ordinary couple. Frustrating that we never know the ‘why?’ … but that’s life! The narrator though, is terrible! She has no ability to truly represent an African accent or the nuance of the characters. Such a shame as I honestly considered stopping the book at multiple points because the narration was so bad. It’s unfair because the performance mark affects the overall mark of the book. Authors should take more time to choose a narrator who does justice to their characters rather than just going with a ‘famous name’.

Great story telling!

Onyi’s story was so well written and whilst it’s not a true story you could clearly feel the tragedy of the main character, so well written and full of emotion. I felt throughout that the feelings the main character was going through were authentic having lost someone to suicide. Thank you.

Beautiful and raw
