In her wildly acclaimed new novel Claire Kilroy creates an unforgettable heroine, whose fierce love for her young son clashes with the seismic change to her own identity.

A thought provoking and emotional read with parts I could really identify with. I very much enjoyed this book and would wholly recommend it.

A moving read

Staggeringly beautiful writing, full of emotion, capturing the highs and lows of motherhood. Narration was perfect

A difficult but utterly beautiful read.

I was so caught up in the veracity and detail of this story that when the audible disclaimer came on at the end “this is a work of fiction” I was shocked. This is the best description of new motherhood I’ve ever read. I wanted to punch her stupid entitled pig of a husband in his stupid entitled Hugo Boss nose. But. It’s ok. Beautiful, beautiful writing. Fantastic performance by Simone Collins & a gratifyingly small payback to hear an English accent (very briefly) mangled by an Irish narrator rather than the other way round.

Beautiful, devastating, honest

The story doesn’t shy away from the harder elements of becoming a mother. It’s beautifully paced, moving, eye opening and engrossing.

Tender and brave portrayal of motherhood

It was an uncomfortable read, but brilliantly written. Some very difficult memories came to the surface, an interesting one to debate in Book club
