About this listen

In Singularity - the network that promises immortality to the rich - a creature is awakening. New virtual life is being created and is struggling to become free. But the growing power of this prisoner, this virtual god, threatens to destroy the world of the living.

Only a handful of people even know the creature exists. They need each other if they're to survive. But can they trust each other? And can they trust themselves when even life and death are no longer certain?

Dive into a nearly possible future where the real and the virtual overlap, and follow Patrick Clark into Singularity in this dark, comic thriller.

Not my usual book choice but this book was very intriguing and kept my attention. It was very well narrated by the author who brought additional interest to the characters.

Would you listen to Singular again? Why?

Yes. Not since Robert J Sawyer have I been fixed on a story from the first few words. There is no fluffiness, just a captivating story which holds you in its grasp.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Patrick Clark. I definitely learned more about his private parts than I ever wanted to know but I related to his wry and insightful humour.

Have you listened to any of David F. Porteous’s other performances? How does this one compare?

First one I've heard but it's hugely impressive that this book is read by the author. He has a career as an audiobook performer if he wanted it.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Yes but I can't say because... spoilers.

Any additional comments?

I hope he writes many many more books.

Any additional comments?

this book is a punchy shortish listen. good ideas, droll humor, interesting out of the box futuristic thinking and very well narrated. The ending was a little bit of a let down but getting there was great fun.

bloody good yarn
