About this listen

The author of I Used to Be a Miserable F*ck, The Angry Therapist, now teaches you how to prioritize your relationship with yourself and live a more meaningful life, whether you’re alone, dating, or with a partner.

There’s more to life than loving someone. But being single can feel like a death sentence. Why does being alone = being lonely? And why do we stop working on ourselves when we’re in a relationship?

After a painful divorce, “The Angry Therapist” John Kim realized he had never truly been on his own. He went on a journey to rebuild his relationship with himself, going from alone and disconnected to alone and fulfilled.

Kim has gone on to help thousands of clients find their own unique way to break free of expectations and finally live their truth. With Single on Purpose, Kim takes his signature no-BS “self-help in a shot glass” approach as he shares his own singlehood story and shows readers how to own their shit, break their patterns, and find a grounded sense of self.

Spending time to cultivate your relationship with yourself shouldn’t be something you only do when you hit rock bottom, go through a major loss, or have a quarter-life crisis. All of us, at some point, need to be single—on purpose.

It took me some time to make it through this book as I found it stirred up many issues I needed to sit with and process before returning to move on. I sent the info about this book to my therapist (schema) as it was a great tool for me trying to work through the break up of an eleven year relationship. Thank you for sharing your experiences with us.

Sound advice compassionately given.

Best book I read in a long time.

This book gives honest, practical advice that though I've heard it (or very similar) fom my therapist and even girlfriends it took this audiobook for it to really resonate. I listened to it initially during daily dog walks and then again whilst before bed, working along when required. This book provides a truly straight forward a common sense approach to self reflection and leaving a more grateful and thoughtful existence - be it with someone or not. As a 28 year old single female who's always been a sucker for long term but negative relationships; it's almost allowed me to not feel guilty for needing this single time now, and will definitely be something I come back to when I am in my next relationship. Have already recommended to a few friends, both single and monogamous!

Didn't expect it to be so good

This book encapsulates, so much wisdom. It is a wonderful book in every way, and I would recommend everyone to read it, regardless of whether they are single or in a couple.
