About this listen

This short book gives you the basics of Welsh in an effective and efficient way, taking as little time as possible. You can use it if you're a complete beginner, or as a revision aid if you're already on the road to fluency. Or maybe if you just find yourself in a rut, and would like a bit of help moving on.

The idea is simple; by spending around an hour on this book, with breaks in between chapters, you should be able to master a very simple form of Welsh. A simple form that will let you say what you, or anyone else, is doing, has done, or is going to do, including the negative and question forms. The book is broken down into six chapters, each taking around 10 minutes to complete and revise. Each chapter has exercises, together with answers at the back of the book.

The book is written by professional Welsh-to-adults tutor Colin Jones, author of the epic home-study Welsh course Cadw Swn. This book is the distillation of years of teaching Welsh to adults, and should provide an essential introduction to the language.

Ah nothing better than the lovely, soothing voice of Colin Jones. I loved it that much, I purchased Cadw Swn so I can speak Welsh to my best friend. He has such a wonderful teaching manner and sense of humour. I hope he brings out some guided meditation audiobooks then even I will relax. Thanks so much Colin

I was sceptical before starting this, but it was super clear and ready to understand. It was also very funny and nicely read.

Would you consider the audio edition of Simple Welsh in an Hour of Your Time to be better than the print version?

Think each has their strengths: go for both

What was one of the most memorable moments of Simple Welsh in an Hour of Your Time?

The author/narrator has such a dry sense of humour. He takes the sting out of some of the surprising things about Welsh for a non-Welsh speaker.

What about Colin Jones’s performance did you like?

Clear, well-paced, and very good delivery, especially dead pan humour.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I don't know about being moved, but I learned a lot in a very short space of time.

Any additional comments?

Anyone new to Welsh should start with this book. It is brilliant.
