Summary

1913. The clouds of war are gathering. The world’s great empires vie for supremacy. Europe is in turmoil, a powder keg awaiting a spark. A body is discovered on the shore below Beachy Head, just a mile from Sherlock Holmes’s retirement cottage. The local police are satisfied that it’s a suicide. The victim, a young man, recently suffered a disappointment in love, and Beachy Head is notorious as a place where the desperate and depressed leap to their deaths. Holmes, however, suspects murder. As he and Watson investigate, they uncover a conspiracy with shocking ramifications.

Weak

Started off well, fizzled out in the end with in my opinion a weak, quite ridiculous plot considering what was offered by seemingly cleaver wealthy people, as I write, the more ridiculous the story was.
Disappointed as it was very well read as usual.
Small point on accuracy, confusion over electrical voltage and current, incorrectly stated.

Enjoyed but.....

These Sherlock Holmes books are excellent but sometimes the narrators pronunciation is bizarre. No idea why as he appears to be English but to never have read certain words .
The books are very entertaining and very enjoyable.

Good plot

The plot was simple and fast paced. The theme was slightly used.
I was struggling to identify characters in dialogues, as the voices and accents were not discernible.
On the whole, I enjoyed it very much

excellent

I always enjoy these continuation of the Sherlock Holmes stories. They are brilliantly read by Dennis Klienman.

Formulaic

I really enjoy James Lovegrove’s rendition of Sherlock Holmes however this story struck me as a little formulaic and obvious.

The reveal of the antagonist was a let down and it felt like the rationale was, ‘it’s like that because that’s what it is’

A good romp

Another good story from Mr Lovegrove and well read by Mr Kleinman. The only thing is the occasional pronunciation, which I would be happy help with, should it be sought.

Solid effort at an "untold" Sherlock Holmes tale

Solid effort at an "untold" Sherlock Holmes tale.

Performance good, marred only slightly by a couple of occasional weird pronunciations .

Good old Holmes and Watson, disappointing narration

I've listened to a few of these recent Holmes stories and they're great for classic Sherlock fans like myself.

The narrator, whilst doing an adequate job of voicing both Holmes and Dr Watson, has a very limited range when it comes to reading out the other character parts. His Sussex accent is unforgivable Irish (and a bad one at that) and his pronunciation of many common words and geographic locations is terrible.

Fabulous

Twists and turns galore. ACD himself would be pleased. Absolutely loved SH & JW authentic voices. Great idea visiting in the great man’s retirement.

Good story some irritations in the narration

Enjoyable and fast moving plot. As always with the Lovegrove books narrated by Dennis Kleinman there are some bizarre pronunciations of words (particularly place names). I am used to these now but really think that the Editor needs to take a look at themselves!
