About this listen

Scandal and betrayal are themes of this collection of 3 vintage Sherlock Holmes tales. "A Scandal in Bohemia" tells of the legendary detective's encounter with Irene Adler, a beautiful and intelligent women, in a story of love, intrigue, and political scandal. In "Silver Blaze," the police must make sense of an unusual knife, a missing horse, and a strange visit in order to find the murderer of a trusted horse trainer. "The Adventure of the Copper Beeches" describes a mysterious, sinister house with copper beeches by the front door that reveals a most unnatural betrayal. The stories are read by a true master, Edward Hardwicke, a talented actor who plays Sherlock Holmes's associate, Dr. Watson, as seen on the popular PBS series Mystery!Public Domain (P)2000 by The Audio Partners Publishing Corp. Hearing the original stories of Sherlock Holmes read by the deep and warm tones of Edward Hardwicke - Dr Watson to Jeremy Brett's Sherlock Holmes in the long -running TV series - has been a pleasure.. Thoroughly enjoyed these stories.

Edward Hardwicke is the voice of Dr Watson

Sherlock Holmes, especially in the original canon, is arguably the definitive detective series yet devised for the thinking person. Of course other stories are also entertaining, but Holmes is superlative in the product of his meticulous cerebral underpinnings.

Edward Hardwicke is undoubtedly one of the greatest actors to embody Dr John Watson and, paired with Jeremy Brett, surely one of the most memorable. It was he, for instance, who brought Watson back from the doddery foolishness of the Nigel Bruce era to the intellectual standing which befits a Doctor of medicine. And as Holmes remarked of Watson in his representation of a British jury, for a narrator I cannot think of a better man.

The best of the best of the best.
