Not as good as the first book but still good.
This book followed the same kind of line as the first, so i found the love story kind of repetitive. I do find the narrators voices quiet annoying. The voices she uses for the women sound like they are wining when actually they are having meaningful conversations. This book is based around a nymph and is there for more sexual, in my opinion, than the previous. Which is not a problem but i had to make sure i was cautious where i listened to the book. All this said i enjoyed the book look forward to listening to the next one.

A Wonderful Continuation!
I received a complimentary audiobook code from the author in return for an honest review.
This is the second book in the Others of Edenton series. I really enjoyed it!
This book is again narrated by Kelley Hazen Story Teller Productions. I really enjoyed her interpretation of the characters. Kelley Hazen's reading voice is lovely to listen to. I love her diction and she gave each character their own voice, which brought them to life. This helped me see them clearly in my mind's eye. I would definitely listen to more books narrated by this lady in the future.
Hayden Hunter is a very enigmatic character. I wasn't sure whether I liked him or not when I met him in the first book of the series, In Too Deep. He is extremely taciturn and mysterious, so I was looking forward to getting to know him a little better. He is a powerful Earth Fae, but doesn't seem to use his magic much. Being the Sheriff of the town of Edenton is not an easy job, but he makes it look like it is. He is well respected by the residents and, by the end of the book, I respected him too. When he meets Amethyst, attraction sparks fly.
Amethyst Lakes is a Water Nymph. I liked her, but on occasion found myself wanting to shout at her and tell her to pay better attention about things happening around her! She can be a little self-centered and a little self-pitying, but she has a good heart. Because she is a nymph, her power comes from sex and lust. She is not ready for a new relationship so soon after her ex killed himself, but after meeting the sexy Sheriff, he is a temptation she is determined to avoid. However, fate (or destiny) has other plans.
Having listened (as well as read) In Too Deep, I was eager to continue the series. I started to listen and was quickly hooked! I must admit that I was a little confused at first, because the story started by following a character called Sapphire, who was a very powerful Water Nymph. But, then I realised that it was a backstory for one of the characters and gave both Hayden and Amethyst a connection, even though remote. The story is told from several characters' point's of view, which gave it an interesting twist. We also get to know Preston, one of the council members, a little better. I must admit that I did feel sorry for him as the story unfolded. He is a really nice guy, who deserves to find happiness. I hope he does in the future. Carl, Amethyst's ex, is (or was) a warlock and a real piece of work. *SPOILER ALERT!!!* His "death" allows a Shadowfae to escape the prison Sapphire had imprisoned him in hundreds of years previously, and sets off a series of events that endanger the lives of several of the Edenton residents.
This story is just as fast paced as the first. There are several surprising twists that I didn't see coming and danger lurks in the corners. However, the only issue I had with this story was with the dialogue. I still felt that the dialogue was a little too "teen/angst ridden" for supposed adults and I found myself rolling my eyes on occasion. Yes, Amethyst is a young nymph, but I felt that some of her dialogue made her seem rather naive and a little immature for being in her early twenties. However, she does grow as a character and it was nice to watch her bloom. This story took me on a roller coaster ride of emotion, with lots of danger and action. I loved how the final showdown between Amethyst and the Shadowfae unfolded. It was extremely exciting and it had me sitting on the edge of my seat! The ending left me looking forward to continuing the series and will read or listen to the next book in the series, Falling Into Place as soon as possible.
Brandy L. Rivers has written an intriguing sequel in the series. I loved her fast paced writing style, and the flow was wonderful. Unfortunately, the melodramatic dialogue was the only thing that let this story down in my opinion. However, with that being said, I would definitely read more of her books in the future.
Due to explicit scenes of a sexual nature, I do not recommend this book to readers under the age of 18. However, I do recommend this book if you love hot erotic paranormal romances full of werewolves, vampires, fae, druids etc. - Lynn Worton

Nice story in the series
Any additional comments?
A good continuation of the series. With all of the characters we met in the first book, we now add one more - and she is an odd one. Full of magical situations and explosive action yet there is romance in the midst. Good world building and characters make for a good series.

Really bad narration for a decent story.
The story is ok, but I actually caught myself cringing every time the narrator did the voice of Amethyst. The narration is more suited to a young child's book, I found it very irritating.

This book does not belong in the shadows
Shadows of the Past was Amethyst's story, it carries on from book #1 and book #1.5. I really liked Amethyst she was a caring soul who doesn't like what her fae powers can do.
Hayden the suspicious Sheriff we met in previous books has a larger role in this book, I loved seeing more of him, I wish we got to see more of what his Earth Fae powers can do. Hopefully we can see that somewhere in future books.
We saw a lot more of Preston then I was expecting. You could say his life path changes in the book, I can't wait to see what instore for him in the future.
Now the Robert, Liz and Tremaine triangle is intriguing... Ms Rivers give me more!
I have loved this narrator during the other books of this series, but her voice for Amethyst grated on me a little too much in this book, I had to listen in short stints because I couldn't handle it for long periods.
The storyline flowed really well and like I said earlier I just adore all these characters. I can't wait to pick up the next book that Brandy gives us. Brandy L Rivers is an Author who I will automatically buy anything she writes, as she never disappoints.

Another masterpiece
Would you consider the audio edition of Shadows of the Past to be better than the print version?
Both amazing but listening to it, brings the story to life
Who was your favorite character and why?
Amethyst - I enjoyed seeing her get more comfortable with herself and her powers. LOVED seeing her come out of her shell and become the girl she was meant to be.
What does Kelley Hazen Storyteller Productions bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
the narration by Kelly Hazen Storyteller Productions was on point. She managed to bring the story to life and as always, her different tones and voices enhanced the already fabulous plot. My only teeny, tiny issue was that Amethyst’s voice was a little bit ‘too high’ for my taste, but that did NOT take away from the amazing that this audio book was – at all – or from Kelly’s talented narration.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Everything was balanced out perfectly and kept me 100% invested and intrigued. This book was FAR from boring.
Any additional comments?
REVIEW:
This series keeps getting better and better!! Shadows of the Past was yet another masterpiece by Brandy L Rivers! Really – I completely loved this book! Once again, the narration by Kelly Hazen Storyteller Productions was on point.
If there is one thing I love about this series, it’s the female lead character in each book. Ms. Rivers has managed to write strong women that, quite frankly, kick butt and take names. They don’t take crap from anyone, not even their men. In Shadows of the Past, Amethyst was no different. She may not have been the tallest girl around, but she was not a pushover by any means. I enjoyed seeing her get more comfortable with herself and her powers. LOVED seeing her come out of her shell and become the girl she was meant to be.
Hayden and Amethyst did not get off to a wonderful start. They both had their fair share of hesitations where giving into each other was concerned, but it was clear as day that they wanted to do so from the very beginning. They couldn’t help it, really. Their reasons for not giving in so quickly were totally understandable, though, especially knowing what they each had been through.
Hayden and Amethyst were a perfect match - just what they each needed and man, what a perfect timing! They both were adamant about not falling in love and all that, but really? They could not fight it any longer. Their chemistry was palpable and it truly sizzled. I loved listening to their and I could not help but have a smile on my face the whole time.
Along with the very steamy romance, Rivers mixed in drama really well. I honestly consider Shadows of the Past to be a true page turner. Everything was balanced out perfectly and kept me 100% invested and intrigued. This book was FAR from boring. I loved seeing the other characters throughout the plot and all their interactions. Others of Edenton is a highly addictive Paranormal Romance series that I highly recommend! Another FIVE STAR, MUST READ, steamy romance!

Any additional comments?
I really enjoyed the story but the narrator dropped the ball on this one. The character voices she attempted to do were horrible. At times it hurt my ears to listen. For this book I would suggest reading instead of listening. Brandy Rivers wrote a very good story so read the book.....

An addictive series!
What made the experience of listening to Shadows of the Past the most enjoyable?
What made this experience enjoyable was the author's story. Brandy L River's does a good job, in describing her characters and telling their story.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Shadows of the Past?
Amethyst punching Dacia straight in the nose! And Preston's reaction to Amethyst punching her was awesome! Actually, that whole scene was great! It was nice to see Amethyst stand up for herself.
Would you listen to another book narrated by Kelley Hazen Storyteller Productions?
I have listened to other books narrated by Kelley Hazen and found them enjoyable. However, I felt that this performance lacked some of the same consistency, as her previous work.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Can a nymph and earth fae find love in the middle of darkness?
Any additional comments?
Amethyst is a water nymph who is trying to get her life back to together after a disastrous relationship. Hayden is the sheriff of Edenton and pretty much suspicious of everyone he meets. Listen as they meet, fall in love and battle the evil that threatens their lives. Brandy L River's once again deliveries in this installment of the Others of Edenton. I found this audio enjoyable and I was happy when Hayden found his happily ever after.

Great Story, Horrible voices
Would you try another book from Brandy L. Rivers and/or Kelley Hazen?
Yes, I love the stories.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Kelley Hazen?
Anyone. Kelley has a horrible reader's voice. Most annoying.

The voice made me crindge right through the story
Would you try another book from Brandy L. Rivers and/or Kelley Hazen?
After this performance I'm not sure.
What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)
It was OK nothing amazing to speak about kind of a let down after In too deep, I found the main Character really lacked confidence and really didn't improve even at the end, normally a character grows as they take their journey Amethyst did not. I found her lacking any strength and just really unbelievable. Haden's character also was disappointing as the hard assed sheriff wasn't even preforming his duties properly and turns into some dirty little prep boy. Some may enjoy this story I was not impressed, it sounded so promising at the beginning, but not long into it. Sadly disappointing.
How could the performance have been better?
Stronger lead character and the voice ARHHH it was so high pitched I really had to listen hard to understand what the character was saying and it was like nails being run across a blackboard.
Any additional comments?
I do try not to pull a novel apart but just give my honest opinion of what I think of it. Criticisms I give I wish to be taken as constructive and not hurtful.
I have enjoyed other novels from this author and performer and would still recommend them to others.

What a fantastic series
I am loving the Others of Edenton series. When I read the story it seemed to pick up in the middle of lives in progress. Each of the couples have intriguing paranormal powers and the couples have great chemistry.
