About this listen

You can't move to the next chapter of your life without tying up loose ends in the previous one.

True crime blogger Erica Hart's fresh start in Spencer turns deadly when a dark shadow darts across the mountain road, sending her SUV plunging into Deep Creek Lake. Deputy Chief Dusty O'Meara thinks it was a bear. Erica knows it was attempted murder.

When contractors discover the body of Erica's childhood friend, Konnor Langston, at the bottom of an abandoned swimming pool on Mac Faraday's son's new property, the case explodes into a full homicide investigation.

With Police Chief David O'Callaghan on paternity leave, it's Dusty's first major murder case in Spencer — and he's working under the long shadow of the legendary Mac Faraday. Complicating everything is Erica Hart, a sharp, relentless true crime blogger determined to find justice for her friend.

Dusty must match wits with Erica while trying to ignore how irresistible she is. Mac Faraday and even Gnarly, the town's canine mayor, are manageable. Erica? Not so much.

In this gripping police procedural mystery full of twists, humor, and heart, a new generation steps up as old secrets refuse to stay buried.

Perfect for fans of small town mysteries, cold case investigations, and detective murder stories.

I loved this latest instalment in the Mac Faraday series. The book starts with a surprise opening and you are left wondering did I just hear that right? Then it goes back in time to explain what lead up to the event that has you so stunned. It may sound confusing but boy does it keep you hooked wondering what happened or is going to. Mac, Gnarly and the gang are all there but this book focuses more on the new Deputy Chief Dusty and an old case. I do have to say that Gnarly (Mac's loveable dog) does take a step back, he is still full of his usual mischief but a talking parrot steals the spot light and provides some of the best laughs. The book also takes on a super natural feel to it but somehow it works and is just as entertaining as previous books. The mystery is good and like the previous books it never turns out quite like you think it is going to do. I really like this author and am so glad I discovered her because it doesn't matter which series you are reading or listening to just know it is going to be good and you are going to be entertained with a good mystery and a few laughs along the way. Can't wait for the next book.
A true crime blogger Erica has decided to return to her old home town after the death of her husband with her trusted and loyal pets. Returning home isn't so easy when that was the place your parents were killed years ago and you are returning to the abandoned home and accident also nearly stops her in her tracks. At the same time a body is discovered in a filled in swimming pool and with the victim quick identified, Erica not only knows the victim but she was the one to report her missing. A connection between the two cases is established but Erica's parents death was open and shut, wasn't it? The only way to find out, is for Erica to start up the Nancy Drew gang. Can she and her old school friends solve the murder? Or will a shadowy tell stand in there way of uncovering long buried secrets.
I liked the narrator. He is entertaining and uses different ways to voice his characters.
