About this listen

How to Press Ahead (and Should You?) When All Is Wrong

As much as we’d like to avoid suffering in life, all of us will occasionally face earth-shattering hardships. You might be dealing with one now, or perhaps your friend or a loved one is, or maybe you’d just like to prepare yourself for when one inevitably occurs in your life. Self-Discipline in Difficult Times is the right book for you if you want to learn how to press ahead as your world turns upside down.

Some of the topics I discuss in the book include:

  • In which situations self-help advice helps and in which you should stay away from it
  • How to avoid making a bad situation worse when you’re under too much pressure
  • How to take care of yourself during difficult times without sabotaging your long-term goals
  • How to begin the process of recovery with three fundamental strategies
  • How to prepare yourself for inevitable future crises with an uncomfortable, but effective practice
  • How to help a friend struggling with a crisis

Mental resilience is our most important tool for surviving a rupture. This book can give you some hope and comfort that you’re not alone in whatever you’re facing.

This is a very concise and to-the-point guide to difficult times. More of a checklist, actually. But come on, when you're down you do not have enough, well, self-discipline to read 800-pages tomes. You need a quick list: stop doing that, do that, plus the short explanation how. And this book provides exactly what is needed. This is a first aid kit everybody should read now, and then keep at hand. More, there is a bonus chapter at the end on how to help others. Go for it, you will not regret.

A much-needed little gem

This is a great listen, especially for beginners to self development. I have read and listened to many books and poscasts on this subject, so this was reinforcing things for me, but was written in such a way that it is easy to listen to with no jargon that some books have.

The final chapter on listening, was new to me, and very beneficial to me both as a parent of young adults, and a manager in the workplace - I have shared this knowledge with other managers, who have found it interesting.

Well done Martin, I look forward to listening to more of your books.

I received this audio book from Martin as part of a promotion.
