Summary

A different kind of police procedural

This book is well written and Eugenia Barona is an excellent narrator. However, I was disappointed with how little of the book was actually about the kidnapping case. It’s a long listen, over 20 hours, and yet only about 4-5 hours, at most, dealt directly with the kidnapping. Most of the remaining 15 hours concerned interdepartmental machinations within the police department, the importance of which was hard to understand for a westerner, at least this westerner. Another problem for me was keeping the names of the characters straight. They all seemed similar to my ear especially with so many beginning with the letter M. That said, it was not a waste of time. I enjoyed the book, but wish it had focused more on the kidnapping.
