About this listen

In San Francisco, the souls of the dead are mysteriously disappearing—and you know that can’t be good—in New York Times bestselling author Christopher Moore’s delightfully funny sequel to A Dirty Job.

Something really strange is happening in the City by the Bay. People are dying, but their souls are not being collected. Someone—or something—is stealing them and no one knows where they are going, or why, but it has something to do with that big orange bridge. Death Merchant Charlie Asher is just as flummoxed as everyone else. He’s trapped in the body of a fourteen-inch-tall “meat puppet” waiting for his Buddhist nun girlfriend, Audrey, to find him a suitable new body to play host.

To get to the bottom of this abomination, a motley crew of heroes will band together: the seven-foot-tall death merchant Minty Fresh; retired policeman turned bookseller Alphonse Rivera; the Emperor of San Francisco and his dogs, Bummer and Lazarus; and Lily, the former Goth girl. Now if only they can get little Sophie to stop babbling about the coming battle for the very soul of humankind . . .

listen to everything by him and you'll be laughing out before you know it, criminally underrated author!

Christopher Moore.... you don't need a review

I love all Christopher Moore's books, it's such a shame that the prequel to this book, Dirty Job is for some reason not available on audible. If you love this book as much as I did, proper laugh out loud enjoyed then check out Noir and Razamatazz! So much fun, historically accurate with lots of magic and really loveable characters. If swearing bothers you, his books are not for you.

Bloody brilliant

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Not really, however, I have read most of his books and consistently laughed

What does Fisher Stevens bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

His acccents are fantastic. Probably the only reason why I stuck with the book

Could you see Secondhand Souls being made into a movie or a TV series? Who would the stars be?

Could be and it would probably be very good.

there are better Chris Moore stories

Brilliant book brilliantly read I wish there was a 3rd in the series. I have listened to the first book several times & think I will with this one too.

Loved it

I’m a fan of Christopher Moore. He’s a great writer but this left me cold. I never got into it. Too many fantastic diversions, no narrative drive, no real engagement with the characters. Like a gifted jazz pianist tinkering through the night for his own enjoyment of his virtuosity with meandering riffs that ultimately go nowhere. Sorry.

No structure, pot boiler, contractural obligation
