About this listen

An ancient enemy stirs once more . . .

Seal of the Worm is the tenth and final book in the critically acclaimed epic fantasy series Shadows of the Apt by Adrian Tchaikovsky.

The Empire has vanquished its enemies at last, but at a terrible price. With her chief rival cast into the abyss, Empress Seda must face the truth of what she’s unleashed in her hunger for power. Now the Seal has been shattered, the ancient Worm stirs towards the light for the first time in a thousand years. Already it is striking at the surface, consuming everything in its voracious path. Unchecked, it will ravage the world.

As her victory seems hollow indeed, Seda knows that only the most extreme solution can lock the Worm in the dark once more. But if she’ll go to such horrific lengths to save them all from the Worm, who’ll save the world from her?

Start the epic journey with Empire in Black and Gold, the first book in the Shadows of the Apt series.

Critic reviews

Breathtaking scope and vision. Adrian Tchaikovsky is one of our finest writers (Gareth L. Powell, author of Embers of War, on Children of Ruin)
A joy from start to finish. Entertaining, smart, surprising and unexpectedly human (Patrick Ness, author of The Knife of Never Letting Go, on Children of Time)

A fitting end to this epic series. Only now, at the end, do I realise how many hours (about 200?) I’ve spent with these characters. A brilliant series that massively exceeded my expectations in depth and scope. I feel almost a sense of bereavement that it is over. Masterful work. I don’t know Adrian does it. And as I always say, the narration and sound design is jaw-dropping.

So sad that it’s over.

Rounded off the whole tale perfectly. Absolutely loved this whole series of books. and Ben Allen's narration was frankly phenomenal all the way through.

A great ending.

This series is just incredible & deserved a great finale and this delivers. Massive credit to the narrator. He adds so much life to the characters in these audio books and brings it all to life

Great conclusion to an excellent series!

Engaging and enjoyable series, with a staggeringly good narrator. He has a different accent for each culture, and consistent individual voices for hundreds of characters. I so wish he had been hired to do Game of Thrones.

Great story, best narration ever

No words. What a truly fantastic series that ended in a very satisfying way. 10 books getting to know some outstanding characters brought to life by a mesmerisingly good voice actor/narrator was definitely time well spent. Adrian, I salute you.

Couldn’t wait to see how this epic ended…..now sad that it has.
