Summary

Over a million copies of the Iron Druid books sold

Kevin Hearne creates the ultimate Atticus O'Sullivan adventure in the grand finale of the New York Times best-selling Iron Druid Chronicles.

Unchained from fate, the Norse gods Loki and Hel are ready to unleash Ragnarok, aka the Apocalypse, upon the earth. With a whole host of dark allies on their side, there's a globe-spanning battle on the cards - one which Druid Atticus O'Sullivan will be hard-pressed to survive, much less win.

Atticus must recruit the aid of an Indian witch and a trickster god in hopes that they'll give him just enough leverage to both save Gaia and see another sunrise. After all, if the world ends, who's going to make sure the hound Oberon gets his well-deserved snack?

Where is Luke Daniels?

I had an unpleasant surprise when I started this book and realised that Luke Daniels was not who I was listening to.

Luke daniels is the best narrator for Iron Druid

Luke daniels is the best narrator for Iron Druid Chronicles. It would have been better to stick with him as he is fun to listen too.

and so it ends

I have waited for this book for what seems like forever though I know it is not but when finally came I was happy and sad as I knew it was mostly likely the end of this series. Though I could ask for a better end. This series has been a great and thrilling ride and I can only hope for more but I am content. If you haven't read any of these book you should, its just mind blowing, sad and a happy experience. The best series I have read over the years and can only say what would Oberon do.....

Epic

Definitely keeps you on your toes! Fantastic ending for the Iron Druid series, so sad the adventures are over! You have to read/listen to this series. Kevin Hearne is a genius and Christopher Ragland brings it all to life with his amazing voices!

Scourged by Kevin Hearne

Brilliant to listen to the last book in the series every part is great just like catching up with old friends as the story develops the understanding of each character comes over lots and endears me to them.
My one and only negative comment is the volume of characters, gods and demons etc as an audio listener it sometimes off putting because it gets to loud and very uncomfortable I know it’s part of the story but when you’ve got headphone in listening volume really does matter.
Can’t wait for the next book at least I will know everyone in the book is ok x lol

Oh, have mercy

As an end, i am so sad, but there is always a chance for a continue. Well, thank you, mr Hearne, for many hours of joy, laughter, moist eyes and fantastic viewpoints. You are a fantastic author. 10/10

meh

I was looking forwards to the last book of the series and how things would tie up, I understand why some things happened and the last epilogue was a good and hopeful note on which to finish the book.
But at the same time, I was expecting something else I suppose and a happier ending, but I suppose things work better this way it is more logical regarding the development of Atticus.

All in all, I would be interested in a follow up series if there ever is one and will look forward to that while enjoying other series.

Great ending shame about the Irish accent

I enjoyed this the last in the life of the iron Druid. It was marred only by the appalling attempt at an Irish accent, that was not only bad but kept being lost mid sentence, only to be tried again a few words on.

Pretty crap disappointing cop out conclusion

I was disappointed with this linear rushed feeling book. Many parts felt forced. I liked this series, and this book lets the rest down.

Disappointing end and shock change of narrator

Disappointing end to a series that began so well and reached some rip roaring heights of fun and excitement before gradually beginning to fall apart in the last few books. Having the characters work on different plot lines all over the world and only come together to check in and play with the hounds, just did not work. May as well have been a series of separate books following just one character all the way through, because it became disjointed and continuity was lost.

Granauile never seemed as realistic or interesting to me as others, whereas I definitely appreciated Owen Kennedy, he was a breath of fresh air and certainly added to enjoyment. The finale could have concentrated in getting them all together much earlier on rather than still tying up so many loose ends or introducing new characters like the Monkey God and the weird bubble tea.

I appreciate the fact that the writer is a strong supporter of the environment but to beat this drum so obviously and so often in this last book didn't feel right at all. The fact that they are Druids, devoted to care of Gaia, Mother Earth herself, and explaining and showing as the various stories unfolded was sufficient.

The final ending was fitting and, without spoiling, am sorry that Atticus was set up at the very beginning as the instigator of the act that rightly shocked. Of course he should be blamed, but while his impetuousness and lack of thinking about consequences is true to form and acceptable, that was out of character and no way near to the legend.

As a devoted fan of Atticus and Oberon I will continue to listen again to many of the earlier adventures which can virtually stand alone. Just sad that the series ended this way.

I have loved the work of Luke Daniels, narrator of every single book I listened to so far, who gave the perfect voice to each character and made them come alive. Then, Audible.com suddenly changes all it's US versions to narrator Christopher Ragland and I have no chance of getting the UK version with Luke Daniels. A very able narrator and if you now listen to all of them read by him it will be fine. But this also spoiled the last book for me as the characters did not ring true in the way I had come to know them.

It wrapped it all up... sort of

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Yes because this is the last book in a series and you have to finish the series. But the change in reader was really hard to deal with.

What do you think your next listen will be?

The Land book 4 by Aleron Kong.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

It is difficult to say, the first 8 books were read by Luke Daniels then they changed the last book to Christopher Ragland and it really took you out of the story. Many of the character were voice different in tone, pitch, accent and speed.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

I would not go to a movie of this book it would make no sense without the first 8 books included or in a series of movies.

Any additional comments?

I will buy this book again if it is record again with Luke Daniels, I value his performance as much as the book itself.

Amazing story!

Wonderful ending to an amazing series.

Very disappointed with the narrator. Have followed this series with Luke Daniels and feel a little robbed with the new narrator. He did a good job, but I felt tried to be too like Luke Daniels and missed the mark on a lot of pronunciations and accents. Probably would have been better to try something new.
