Summary

Vulkan lies in state beneath the Fortress of Hera, and yet many of his sons still refuse to believe that he is truly dead.

After a seemingly miraculous rescue by the Ultramarines, Artellus Numeon, once captain of the Pyre Guard, urges the other Salamanders on Macragge to leave Imperium Secundus and return their primarch's body to the home world of Nocturne - there to be reborn in the flames of Mount Deathfire. But Numeon grapples endlessly with his doubts and fears for the future of the Legion while their foes seek to carve out new destinies of their own....

Great listen!

Maybe slightly too long, bedsides that, another great HH novel, with the usual mix of blood and betrayal

That was worth it

The salamanders are turning into one of my favourite legions… one of the best so far!

Tough going

I found the story in this to be very contrived - really just didn’t enjoy it. The 3rd part of it just seemed tacked on

So slow paced.

While I understand Nick Kyme couldnt just have the journey from Maggre to Nocturne be an easy thing the entire book is so slow paced it almost goes backwards. The only thing that made it better than Damnation of Pythos is it actually advnced the plot even if it was minutely.

Crazy pacing

Overall not a bad listen but the pacing is all over the place with significant dry stretches

Almost skipped it!

I almost skipped this book after reading some reviews that it's not crucial to the HH storyline. If you were a fan of Vulkan lives and Unrememberd Empire then this follows on from that. I enjoyed it and the main Salamander protagonist Numeon is quite a likeable character in my opinion. I'm glad I didnt skip it! VULKAN LIVES!!!!
