Summary

Auf der Suche nach Verbündeten im Kampf gegen den finsteren Thalak, der das Land mit Zerstörung überzieht, hat es den Krieger Havald, die Halbelfe Leandra und ihre Gefährten in den Wüstenstaat Bessarein verschlagen. Dies war einst Teil Askirs, ist nun jedoch ein autonomes Land. In der sengenden Hitze des exotischen Landes werden sie Zeugen eines Menschenraubes und geraten zwischen die Fronten des Thronfolgekampfs in der Hauptstadt Gasalabad. Eine entscheidende Rolle spielt dabei ein magisches Artefakt - das Auge von Gasalabad. Schließlich wird die Gruppe selbst von Sklavenhändlern überfallen und auseinandergerissen. Havalds Geliebte Leandra bleibt verschollen. Damit nicht genug, es erweist sich, dass die Feinde, welche die Neuen Reiche bedrohen, ihnen bis nach Bessarein gefolgt sind. Schlimmer noch: Anscheinend legt sich Thalaks Schatten nun auch über diese fernen Gegenden, um sie zu unterjochen…
