Publisher's Summary

Andrea Vernon always thought she would spend her life living in Paris writing thought-provoking historical novels all day and sipping wine on the Seine all night. But the reality is she's drowning in debt, has no prospects, and is forced to move back to Queens, where her parents remind her daily that they are very interested in grandchildren.

Then, one morning, she is kidnapped, interviewed, and hired as an administrative assistant by the Corporation for UltraHuman Protection. Superheroes for hire, using their powers for good. What could possibly go wrong?

Lots.

Her coworkers may be able to shoot lightning out of their hands or have skin made of diamonds, but they refuse to learn how to use the company's database. She has a swell hook-up buddy relationship with The Big Axe, but he's pushing to go exclusive. Then there's the small matter of a giant alien space egg hovering over Yankee Stadium, threatening civilization as we know it.

Will Andrea find contentment in office drudgery? Can she make a life together with a guy who's eight feet tall and never puts down his axe? And will she ever figure out how her boss likes her coffee?

Andrea Vernon and the Corporation for UltraHuman Protection marks the debut of a super-funny new voice in fiction.

    "A real gem! "

I'd never heard of the author, or the reader, I just took a chance. And what a great find this was! It's a warm hearted, funny and cleverly written book, and Bahni Turpin's rich, versatile voice really enhances the fun. There's literally a cast of thousands in this, including feisty latino superheroes, a mechanical kitchen sink, alien invaders and an evil not-quite-genius. In the wrong hands this story could have been a train wreck, but this is a well choreographed comedy dance piece that will have your toes tapping.

Most of the comedy is character based, so it's good that the characters are so clearly defined, and easy to separate from their voices.
It takes a couple of minutes to pick up pace at the start, while all the unusual circumstances and characters are introduced, but then the plot is up and running, twisting and turning to eventually concludes with a breathless and bubbling climax. Great fun!

    "Great Book!"

This book is a great read from start to finish! The humor is relatable, the characters flushed out and full, and the wit superb! I could easily see an entire book written about any main or supporting character in the novel and hope the author expands the world he's so delightfully created!

    "Great Narration!"

This was a really funny book & the narrator is everything! The end of the book would have been funny regardless of who was reading, but her voices just made the laughter bubble out of me.

    "Enjoyable and hilarious "

I loved this audiobook for the most part. In fact it only fell a little short of a 5 star rating because the multiple viewpoints happening concurrently were a bit confusing and pulled me out of the story a little. But for a debut novel I thoroughly enjoyed it. The puns, the tongue in cheek jokes, the ridiculous situations and the visuals had me laughing out loud. I think the most intriguing aspect was how the corporation was an entity and character on its own and carried part of the story. I highly recommend if you enjoy satire.

    "Great Story"

2 things that stand out for me.

    1. I am not a sci-fi fan but the cover of this book caught my attention and I had to read it. I am so glad I did. Very funny story and it kept my interest. I cannot tell you how many times I was laughing out loud!

    2. I was worried my attention span would not be good with an audible book. I am very happy to say this was not the case. Bahni Turpin does such a great job drawing you in to the characters and the story. She brought them all to life and that was so enjoyable! I feel like I know them all too well.

I look forward to getting this book in hardcopy and will tell others about this good read.

    "Dumb Fun"

Very silly and very funny. I loved the names of the super heroes and the awkwardness of the lead character not being able to ask even a single question at work. Ready for a sequel.

    "Unexpectedly Great!"
If you could sum up Andrea Vernon and the Corporation for UltraHuman Protection in three words, what would they be?

    Better than expected.

What other book might you compare Andrea Vernon and the Corporation for UltraHuman Protection to and why?

This had the same snappy, wry wit as the comic Atomic Robo.

Which character – as performed by Bahni Turpin – was your favorite?

    Andrea Vernon

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Help is just a call center away!

    Any additional comments?

A surprising first outing by a new author. The confidence and comfort that Alexander Kane wrote these characters, combined with the always amazing performance of Ms. Turpin, really drew me in. If ever you were going to give niche genre-fiction a chance, this is a pretty great place to start!

    "very entertaining"

Not a normal sci to book nor super hero story. Despite a lot of stupid love for capitalism, I like it because it was witty and had good characters.

    "Great for a short story"

As a novel it dragged on an on. Like the joke that never seems to get to the punch line...it was hard for me to stick with it. I finally finished but really felt like I wasted hours of my life. But since I paid for it I was determined--30 seconds of funny after a two hour build up does not make a great investment. The narrator did a good job with the voices and accents though.

Outstanding first novel. I can't wait til the next one. The story was.... I have no words, It was just that good, from beginning to end. Narration on point. Had me laughing out loud. Loved the southern back home sayings. A southern accent that doesn't sound forced.
