Selma Ottilia Lovisa Lagerlof wurde am 20. November 1858 auf Gut Marbacka in Varmland, Schweden geboren und starb am 16. Marz 1940 ebendort. Sie war eine der bekanntesten Schriftstellerinnen des Landes und gehört zu den schwedischen Autoren, deren Werke zur Weltliteratur zahlen. 1909 erhielt sie als erste Frau den Nobelpreis für Literatur. "Schwester Olivers Geschichte" ist eine Erzählung die vor allem zum Nachdenken anregen soll. Aber ist auch eine überaus interessante Erzählung für Erwachsene - zum Thema "Berufung". "Schwester Olivers Geschichte" hat bis heute nicht an Bedeutung verloren, ganz im Gegenteil, die Frage nach der eigenen Berufung im Leben wird immer wieder gestellt.
