I didn't mean to star in a sex tape, okay? It was just one of those unexplainable things. Like Stonehenge, Police Academy 2, and morning glory clouds. It just happened. Now, my ball-busting father is sentencing me to six months of celibacy, sobriety, and morbid boredom under the roof of Boston's nerdiest girl alive, Sailor Brennan. The virginal archer is supposed to babysit my ass while I learn to take my place in Royal Pipelines, my family's oil company. Little does she know, that's not the only pipe I'll be laying....

Story
When ballet dancer Clara Campbell arrives in New Orleans, lonely and homesick, she is immediately captivated by the story of Windisle Plantation and the tragic tale that is said to have transpired beyond its gate. Legend has it that it is abandoned by all living souls, but to Clara’s great surprise, it is not a ghost she hears through the stone wall surrounding the property, but a flesh and blood man: a scarred stranger with a pain deeper and darker than the churning waters of the Mississippi river that flows beside his self-imposed prison.

Story
Samson and Beyah have nothing in common on the surface. She comes from a life of poverty and neglect; he comes from a family of wealth and privilege. But one thing they do have in common is that they're both drawn to sad things. Which means they're drawn to each other. Beyah and Samson agree to stay in the shallow end of a summer fling. What Beyah doesn't realize is that a rip current is coming, and it's about to drag her heart out to sea.

Chosen from birth to usher in a new era, Poppy’s life has never been her own. The life of the Maiden is solitary. Never to be touched. Never to be looked upon. Never to be spoken to. Never to experience pleasure. Waiting for the day of her Ascension, she would rather be with the guards, fighting back the evil that took her family, than preparing to be found worthy by the gods. But the choice has never been hers.

Darling Arrow, I shouldn’t be writing this. It’s not as if I’m ever going to send you this letter, and there are a million reasons why. First of all, I was sent to this reform school as a punishment for a petty, totally inconsequential crime. Not to ogle the principal’s hot son around the campus. Second of all, you’re a giant jerk. You’re arrogant and moody and so cold. Sometimes, I think I shouldn’t even like you.

In fifth grade my teacher set us up with pen pals from a different school. Thinking I was a girl, with a name like Misha, the other teacher paired me up with her student Ryen. My teacher, believing Ryen was a boy like me, agreed. It didn't take long for us to figure out the mistake. And in no time at all, we were arguing about everything. The best take-out pizza. Summary
A new heart-pounding, suspenseful, and supremely romantic novel from New York Times best seller Mia Sheridan.
When wilderness guide Harper Ward is summoned to the small town sheriff's office in Helena Springs, Montana, to provide assistance on a case, she is shocked to find that their only suspect in the double murder investigation is a man described as a savage.
But the longer she watches the man known only as Lucas, on the station surveillance camera, the more intrigued she becomes. He certainly looks primitive with his unkempt appearance and animal skin attire, but she also sees intelligence in his eyes, sensitivity in his expression. Who is he? And how is it possible that he's lived alone in the forest since he was a small child?
As secrets begin to emerge, Harper is thrust into something bigger and more diabolical than she ever could have imagined. And standing right at the center of it all is Lucas. But is he truly the wild man he appears to be? A cold-blooded killer? An innocent victim? Or a perplexing mix of all three?
Harper must find out the answers to these questions, because the more time she spends with him, the more she risks losing her heart.

An incredibly moving story
I wonder how many readers said "I didn't see that coming" a time or two whilst reading, or listening, to this book. As expected, this is another hit from for Mia Sheridan. The story had layers upon layers with so much heartbreak and emotion for the children who were so cruelly exploited, especially Jack. The story is told in two parts, firstly that of the child Jack, who struggles to survive in horrific conditions in the wild and secondly, the story is between Lucas and Harper Ward who's paths become intertwined when Lucas is brought into the police station for questioning following the death of his neighbour. Lucas has always lived off the grid, never even venturing into town, but with the death of his neighbour, life as he knows it is about to change. When Harper is brought in to help the Agent tasked with investigating two mysterious cross-bow deaths in the town she comes across the enigmatic stranger, Lucas. Knowing practically every part of the land that surrounds the town, Harper assists the police to find their way around the crime location and that leads her to Lucas' door with questions pertaining to his neighbour but also to him, his life and how he will live now he is unable to trade with his deceased neighbour. Harper survived the death of her parents in a crash and became a wilderness guide, partly in the hope that one day she will stumble across her parents and their car which was never found after the accident. The mystery and suspense in this story begins to unravel with Harper and Lucas' interaction but I didn't expect just how closely aligned their lives from childhood would be. When Harper starts to understand just how Lucas has lived and what he has endured, she decides to help him especially when he unexpectedly gives her the answer to her prayers. This story was epic. It was such an emotional roller-coaster and packed in so many twists and turns that really did keep me guessing right up until the stories conclusion. Jack was a wonderful character who was perfectly portrayed on Audible and Harper was the perfect person to complement his sensitivities. Parts of this story resembled the Hunger Games but only in so much as seeing children fighting to survive a situation which was not of their making. What happened to them was cruel and unforgivable but to see Jack become the man he did was incredibly rewarding. This was a standalone story and definitely one that I will revisit a time or two.

A HAUNTING & EMOTIONAL JOURNEY OF SURVIVAL & LOVE
Wow.. what a unique, unpredictable and emotionally gripping story this was as you learn what little boy Luke (aka Jack) went through to survive alone in the wilderness, what heartbreaking challenges he faced and what evil lies he was fed to manipulate him into becoming an unsuspecting pawn. Told in past and present chapters to give you depth and a true sense of what Luke endured to become the skilled 23 yr old survivor he is today.. and how he kept his humanity, sanity and his childlike naïveté. He’s kind and loving despite never being shown either.. and when he sees his mate it will change his life forever. Because she’s got a damaged backstory too with threads that will chillingly link them together.. but she will be the loving anchor he will desperately need when he eventually leaves his wilderness home. The revelations, twists and non-stop action were thought provoking emotional minefields, the tenderness, passion and love between Luke and Harper was beautiful and Luke’s character growth and acceptance really moved me. The suspenseful breadcrumbs of clues was intricately woven together as the main and secondary multi-layered characters slowly pieced together a villainous plot, revealed a murderer and, despite a HEA ending, left the story slightly ajar to perhaps continue the plot. Worth a credit? Although the story is totally implausible and obviously fictitious.. it’s still riveting and compelling stuff. And this tragic, touching, moving, suspenseful, tender, sweet and exceptionally well-narrated multiple POV story, IMO, would definitely be creditworthy.. but it’s another fantastic free Audible Escape listen.. so yay, cheers and celebrations all round.

Thought-provoking & emotional
Mia Sheridan aimed this one directly at my core. The word that keeps coming to mind is depth. Many romances explore how love helps traumatized people to survive hardships and overwhelming loneliness, but sometimes the main character’s connection seems shallow, an insta-lust that isn’t justified as the story progresses. Sheridan really impressed me with the patience and care she took in developing Jack’s distinct voice and perspective as he learned about the world beyond his limited experience, and she gave Harper and Jack great dialogue as well as inner monologues. Their connection touches on something ancient and primal, and the writing admirably reflects their journey to accept all parts of themselves and each other. The narration was also excellent, especially in Jack’s chapters performed by Christian Fox. Content warning with mild spoiler: There’s violence against humans as one might expect in a tale about survival, but some readers may want to know there’s a wrenching scene involving an animal. I waffled on whether to mention this, but I know quite a few people skip books entirely due to this type of content.

Unique Tarzan type mystery romance
I really enjoyed this audiobook. I found the story of this child who survived in the wilderness and how he came to be there fascinating. Enjoyable characters, a little bit of a mystery, and some romance thrown in for good measure. If the book had a weakness it is that the end felt a little rushed. I was still happy with the ending, it just felt a little slim when compared to the rest of the book.

Great narrators but ....
The narrators did a fantastic job, I loved listening to them. The storyline although interesting was just too implausible. If you are a reader or listener that doesn’t mind it then I would strongly recommend this novel. Spoilers: I just kept thinking why hasn’t this boy got sick? Why wouldn’t he explore the area more? If he was barefoot in the snow how hasn’t he lost toes to frost bite? Questions like these kept plaguing my thought throughout the story so for me it wasn’t so enjoyable.
