About this listen

Savage Moon: some won't see the morning....

The body of a woman with her throat ripped out is found on Saddleworth Moor, near Manchester. She is discovered in an area where sightings of a large black cat have been made. When analysis shows that hairs caught under the victim's nails are those of a panther, it’s assumed the animal has killed its first human prey. Then a man DI Jon Spicer is investigating is murdered in exactly the same way. Only this time the body is found in a secluded car park far closer to the city centre. Spicer is soon on the trail of a killer dubbed ‘The Monster of the Moor’, a creature whose stealth and savagery strikes terror into the hearts of men and women alike.

I don’t expect an audiobook on crime to become a lesson British Army atrocities. If I wanted that I would choose a book where I could see who was writing, this is important when reading about any historical event. To have so much about the Mau Mau in Kenya and the battles in Iraq, is almost like propaganda and detracted from the story. The depression Alison was having after the birth of the baby was obvious and any normal person would have sought medical help. Yet all that was brushed over. Even at this time people who smoked were told not to go near babies, because even your breath is polluted if you smoke. Also if he smoked in that car the baby would not be able to go in for quite a while. So we get pummelled by dodgy history, but known facts like the risks of passive smoking are ignored. I will not be reading any more books by this author. I didn’t care about the characters and their actions were often nonsense. The story line had so many holes, it got boring.

A unexpected history book that forgot it was a novel.
