Great for atmosphere and seeing the scene but story needs more things happening to liven it up.

Well read but overall the story is a little slow

Great historical novel, I also downloaded the audio version, as it was on special when you bought the book, it can be quite soothing listening and really ready for the next novel, but hope the author will get rid of Sophia, as, I think she is a distraction, but the way the book ends I think she will be popping back up again which is a shame. I think it must be quite hard in the1600 century to solve the crime as a lot of it must be guesswork, and common sense, however its certainly different to today's crime-busting,

The series of SJ Paris books are excellent!! They are really well researched historically and very realistic.

…the narrator needs to read the passage through first, or, if he already does, needs to do it more often! There are a few jarring moments when either his pronunciation or emphasis causes the listener to realise that he doesn’t have the full meaning of the narrative, so does not give it its full weight… but otherwise an enjoyable tale of twists and turns.

Well, written, with only 2 historicsl inaccuracies I could divine, but they did not detract from the story! Just gave me a wee frisson of pleasure!
