Summary

Som ung trodser Robinson Crusoe sin fars råd og står til søs på jagt efter eventyr. Selvom han på sine første rejser får flere forvarsler om, hvad han har i vente, hvis han fortsætter livet på havet, begiver han sig efter nogle år som plantageejer i Brasilien atter til søs. På denne rejse lider han skibbrud, mister alle sine rejsefæller og får sig kun med nød og næppe kæmpet i land på en øde ø, hvor han er tvunget til at blive. Ved hjælp af lidt held, arbejdsomhed, selvdisciplin og foretagsomhed får Robinson Crusoe langsomt skabt sig en tilværelse på øen med både agerbrug og husdyrhold. Som øens enehersker begynder han efterhånden at føle sig både tryg og hjemmevant, indtil han en dag pludselig opdager et menneskeligt fodspor, der ikke stammer fra ham selv.
