Summary

As Christians, we believe that all sins are considered equal in God's eyes. Yet while evangelicals continue to decry the Big Ones - such as abortion, adultery, and violence - we often overlook more deceptive sins. It seems we have created a sliding scale where gossip, jealousy, and selfishness comfortably exist within the church. In short, some sins have simply become acceptable.

Acclaimed author Jerry Bridges believes that just as culture has lost the concept of sin, the church faces the same danger. Throughout, Jerry encourages victory over personal sin through the gospel's transforming power. This release is perfect for listeners who long to thoughtfully examine their lives and discover a deeper walk with God.

Exposing

What made the experience of listening to Respectable Sins the most enjoyable?

Jerry Bridges uncovers the roots of our socially acceptable sins and shows how nefarious they are. Yet he holds out the sweetness of forgiveness and the power to change through the work of Jesus Christ.

Overall a good book

Some very good points on areas we commonly accept in the church. Even if you don't have the same convictions, the book encourages thoughtful consideration and sharpening of our relationship with God.

Excelente

Often these ‘respectable sins’ are easily dismissed. The author addresses areas where the self righteous person rarely visits or admits. I know for myself I was personally convicted and I am thankful that someone had the courage to address these areas because so many books are written on the ’big outward’ sins but too few on the ‘respectable ‘ sins. A must read for those of us desiring to please the Lord from the inside out.

Excellent book!

He exposed my sins while letting me know that this is why Christ came (to pay for my sin) and that I could not handle the reality of my evil were it not that I am secure in Christ. He let me know that I do not have any acceptable sins because all sins are truly evil in God's eyes and he helped me see the evil moe like God's sees evil. He helped me see that my future sins are actually (were actually) placed on Christ to bear. That is such a painful thought that I would continue to sin with my understanding that Jesus bore all my sins upon Him. Thank you Jesus for paying the debt I owe.

Like peeling an onion!

God loves us. A very good read. Humbling. It is an issue of the heart and that is what the Lord is after in us.
