About this listen

A young woman falls to her death. The only people with her are four schoolfriends. One - or maybe all of them - is responsible. Twenty years later someone is intent on letting them have their just desserts.

DCI Andrew Fenwick is soon caught up in a desperate race against time to find the murderer before he completes his bloody vendetta. As the death toll mounts, he must draw the predator out of the shadows and into an unconventional trap with the ultimate bait.

Elizabeth Corley is a new author for me and on the strength of this book I'll be down-loading more of her works. Early on I was afraid that the story would involve graphic descriptions of violence or torture, but happily that wasn't the case: the author left it to our imagination, which I prefer. The structure of the book, told mostly in the present tense, gives the impression of actually following a police investigation as it happens which adds to the tension and desire to keep listening. As with most detective fiction it depends on complex motives and many diversions in the investigation. I got a real feeling, though, of how frustrating it can be for detectives when clues lead to no progress.
I have a few niggles about accuracy, such as depicting psychiatric treatment more suited to a Victorian novel, but not enough to spoil my enjoyment of the book.

Kept me listening

A roller coaster story line that twists and turns to keep you guessing. Gripping suspense throughout.
Not my favourite narrator. I find his voice a little harsh, though he differentiates between characters well.
An enjoyable listen despite this minor irritation. I will be listening to the next book in the series.

A great listen.

I was really looking forward to listening to this book given the reviews that had been posted and indeed I did quite enjoy it but there were a couple of things that took the edge off the enjoyment for me.

The plot is a reasonably good one but there are a few points where I was left wondering why a passage seemed to be overly long without providing any real insight into the story.

The other area I felt let down the story was the narrator who seemed to pause for too long many times during the reading, this detracted slightly from the tale for me.

Overall, a good story but I'm not sure I'd listen to another of Elizabeth Corley's books and probably would avoid this particular narrator. I've definitely listened to better readings recently.

Pretty Good

Having listened to Fatal Legacy and thoroughly enjoyed it I decided to download Requiem Mass. I was not disappointed - I loved it. Good plot, well written and well narrated with lots of twists and turns. I should have read this one first as, although it is not a sequel as such, this does have some of the same characters in Fatal Legacy. However, this did not affect my enjoyment of the book.

Brilliant

Overall the story was quite well thought out - but there was so much extraneous and unneccesary wandering, that I felt it was a bit of a chore to finish, I did more or less enjoy it, though doubt I will look for Elizabeth Corley's books in future.

A bit tedious
