Summary

No one wants to see a church die. And yet, far too many churches are dying. For more than 25 years, Dr. Thom Rainer has helped churches grow, reverse the trends of decline, and has autopsied those that have died. From this experience, he has discovered 12 consistent themes among those churches that have died. Yet, it's not gloom and doom because from those 12 themes, lessons on how to keep your church alive have emerged. Whether your church is vibrant or dying, whether you are a pastor or a church member, Autopsy of a Deceased Church will walk you through the radical paths necessary to keep your church alive to the glory of God and advancement of Christ's Kingdom!

Amazing and Insightful

Our senior pastor retired after a very long pastorate and the church members need guidance and direction for the journey ahead. I started, after prayerful consideration, by purchasing an additional ten copies of this book to hand out to our leadership.

Interesting information

Good insight for every church member to read before they get to the point of the church being diagnosed as a dying church.

Outstanding

The book met my expectations and in some areas exceeded it. The narrator spoke with clarity and the book gave great details and insight for every church regardless of the staff the church is in.

A Must Read for All Church Members

Great book. I'm part of a healthy church. attendance is growing. with that, changes are being made. this book talks about how some of those changes can start a short term common cold.... but uncared for, will turn into full blown viral disease. excellent book!!!!

Excellent but unclear

I loved this book. I would recommend it to many; I had thought of them as I read it. What I wish were clarified is the word evangelism. I know the author refers to our hearts being in the right place and our willingness to go and do. Not everyone who reads that word is thinking the same thing, especially if their church is in troublesome times. I wish the author had clarified the difference in evangelism and outreach because it really changes the entire perception of the book. It was mentioned in several chapters that you should be outward focused, willing to spread the gospel message, and warned not to become a fortress. But if evangelism is perceived as an advertisement for your church, you promote the idea that the church’s success is through your own actions, apart from God instead of your actions through Him. Some members of our church are about to gather in prayer. I know this issue will arise. So in total, I would say that this book is perfect for someone in good relationship with God, knowledgeable in that kind of vocabulary, and very aware of the spiritual condition and heart of others.
