Yes, I admit it - I was drawn to this book by the beautiful and very striking cover. Rather shallow, perhaps, but in this case the visuals did not fail as the contents were exactly that: a remarkable and vividly told story beautifully written. The rise of Darrow, a Red, one of an enslaved class of peoples, into one of the Gold, the elites, is at times harrowing and does not always show our hero in a favourable light. Which is why this book is so successful. It is human nature pushed to extremes, of love, of hate and the need to survive not just for oneself but for an ideal, even when that ideal is sometimes elusive.The narrator, T.G.Reynolds performs an epic interpretation, also. For the first few minutes I found his voice uncomfortable to hear but it very quickly translated into THE voice, Darrow's voice and added immensely to the pleasure. He even manages to sing sweetly, briefly, a song forbidden, too gentle to be called an anthem of rebellion yet this is what it is. And this, too, summarises the book for me. It is a tale of violence in an extreme world but told without recourse to prolonged description of gore and body hacking, though some of this occurred, of course. A story of trying to right wrongs but, in the doing, committing these same cruelties oneself. And confusion over the how's, the where's and even, sometimes, even the why's of life.
A rattling good read, and an excellent narration all wrapped up in a pretty package to leave the reader thinking and wanting more. All there just by opening the eye catching cover.

I am an avid fantasy reader, and this is my first time venturing into Sci-fi, and I loved every minute of it. Why is it my first time reading Sci-fi? You ask, I couldn’t tell you for the life of me, but let me tell you, I will be reading a lot more if this book is anything to go by.
I'll be upfront with you's here, I loved this book so much that I've just purchased the next four and have started book two already, and it just gets better and better.
Red Rising is the first book in the sci-fi Red Rising series set in space where humanity has evolved into different casts, each represented by a colour. Peirce Brown's characterisation is so on point that I'm fascinated by everyone, even the side characters, and especially the villains.
This book has it all, incredible worldbuilding, wonderful writing, and a plot to die for. From the very start, the author brings you on such an emotional journey with the injustices of being born a slave to the rich and powerful.
Red Rising reminds me of the Hunger Games, only a hundred times better. It's fast-paced and action-packed, and Pierce Brown knows exactly how to write scenes of warfare that will just leave you in awe.
When a martyr is born, the weak shall rise and bring vengeance to those who hold the chains. Darrow was born a red, the lowest cast of all humanity. Slaving beneath Mars so that one day future generations can live atop its surface. But it's all lie.
Darrow is oblivious like all his people, Golds rule with an iron fist, but he is happily living his life as a helldiver, married, and worships his childhood sweetheart and a family he loves and would die for. When they take that all away from him, God help those that did, because hells vengeance is going to reap and sow.
To all you fantasy, sci-fi lovers who haven't read this series yet, there are six books released so far in the series. It's absolutely amazing, I can't highly recommend enough..🔥🔥🔥🔥
