About this listen

Darrow returns as Pierce Brown’s New York Times bestselling Red Rising series continues in the thrilling sequel to Dark Age.

“The measure of a man is not the fear he sows in his enemies. It is the hope he gives his friends.”—Virginia au Augustus

The Reaper is a legend, more myth than man: the savior of worlds, the leader of the Rising, the breaker of chains.

But the Reaper is also Darrow, born of the red soil of Mars: a husband, a father, a friend.

The worlds once needed the Reaper. But now they need Darrow. Because after the dark age will come a new age: of light, of victory, of hope.

Critic reviews

"Tim Gerard Reynolds returns with another installment in the rich sci-fi saga Red Rising.... Reynolds's expert performance provides the charisma necessary for many of the diplomatic scenes to work. Fans will rejoice at long-awaited reunions, all performed with care. The dialogue is well paced and delivered with the right amount of emotion. Fans of Red Rising will find Reynolds's delivery just as passionate as the writing. Overall, Reynolds ensures that this installment is another robust addition to the series." Even with all the hype, he delivered. Superb book with all the breathless action, plot twists, and character building that we’ve come to love from Brown, chapeau.

He’s done it again

Fantastic narrator and story. I can't wait for the next one! An improvement going back to one narrator.

fantastic

Good set up for final book while still being a great story in its own right.

Some brilliant action scenes - hope for much more of the large scale action scenes in Red God, Pierce does them excellently. The Phobos scene needs to be in a movie (as do the large scale action scenes on Mercury from Dark Age).

I think the Lysander POV and character arc/ development from Iron Gold through to Light Bringer is sensational and gives the series a lot more depth. A lot of people don't like the character, I understand that, but that does not make his story and his chapters any less interesting.

Agree with comments saying there is not enough variation between darrow and lysander in the voice acting. hopefully this can be tweaked in red god as it will continue to be heavy on both characters.

Overall, worth the wait!

Great penultimate book
