Disappointing

As it stated "Prequel " for the Bones character assumed it was about his early days prev vampire , his turning and his immediate struggles of his transformed years.

Urgh this was a frustrating read.

What would have made Reckoning better?

I was super grosses out by what these new evil characters do to their prey. Almost to the point of not finishing the book. I was wondering how the victims stayed alive (which was explained much later in the book.)
In most of her books the evil characters are developed better, so you understand what made them this way, these weren't.
Even though Bones is the main character, it was hard for me to place when in his life this took place, before Kat or when he thought she was dead.

What do you think your next listen will be?

I Love Love you Jeaniene & Tavia. This took a dark turn in a bad place . I've started a new series with a Bones and Kat like relationship. It's Charlie and Reyes in "First Grave on the Right" cute funny banter and we'll developed love story. Not as steamy as Kat n Bones, but I have high hopes.

What three words best describe Tavia Gilbert’s voice?

I don't think describing her in just 3 words does her justice. She should read all my books. Amazing range, dramatic, believable, emotionally binding, Earth - shattering... yeah, she rocks!

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Nausea and let down. I expected more.

Any additional comments?

I know it's tough to hear, but it's only because the bar was set so high with her Night Huntress series.

Bones Before Cat!!!

This was a short story about a job Bones did before he appeared in the first book with Cat.
It was enjoyable read and an interesting ending...

If you are a fan of the series then buy this.. Its just the price was too much for less than 2 hours book.

Really good but really short

Expected a longer story as the price for it was the same as book in the series. That's really the only issue. Great story.

a good short listen

A great little story. If you're a fan of the Cat & Bones books you'll really appreciate this little peek into Bones' life before he met Kat. Love it!

Loved it! Top notch performance!

I love JF, I have all of her books. This was an amazing book telling Halfway to the Grave from Bones’ point of view. Getting into his head gives the whole story such depth. It also gives me another chance to enjoy the Night Huntress series with a fresh twist. The narrator was a perfect choice! I really think he is a nice complement to Tavia Gilbert’s performances. Some reviews say he doesn’t have an English accent but I disagree. The accent is subtle but it’s there. Besides, in several places in this book and in Halfway to the Grave Bones mentions that he’s sounding “more like a yank”. It really works for me.

Proof That Bones Alone Can Carry A Tale

I was uncertain about purchasing this book that was Pre-Cat, but was surprised at how much I enjoyed it. In fact, I think I liked it even better than the Cat and Bones stories. Cat is a bit whiny and annoying sometimes. Bones strutting around New Orleans on the hunt was sexy as hell. I very much enjoyed this prequel. Thank you, Jeaniene!

Not as good as the other books.

I was expecting the lack of romance, but the book was lacking the laughter, cleaverness and sarcasm of the rest of the serie. it is short, sad and did not reveal much about Bones' past or mindset before he meets Cat. I would have prefered to hear/read much more about him, maybe to include Ian and Spade in a bachelor type mindset in new orlean. Them getting in trouble with Marie a few time could have been funny. it was disapointing in comparison with the other books.

aweful with grating naration

What disappointed you about Reckoning?

naration was so bad I just hated listening, even though its hardly more than an hour - never finished while awake, looking to return this as a complete waste of time

What could Jeaniene Frost have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

a completely different narrator, someone that can pull off an accent without grating the nerves. less gore, more story

How could the performance have been better?

narration was so bad - the accents were cringey and grating - get someone who can pull if off without sounding like a juvenile american actor failing at an Oliver Twist impression

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

no, it was a complete waste

Good novella

Any additional comments?

Good to have an extra Bones' story. The novella is a stand alone book and is before Cat appears in his life. Action and adventure abound. Good story and plot development.
