About this listen
"A total page-turner." (Fiction's Mistress)
When her mother is sleeping with the man she loves, what's a girl to do?
Francesca is weeks away from high school graduation and the hope of escaping her self-centered, grasping family - her trashy mother and hustling twin brother. While her crush on their older neighbor holds her attention, she is blind to what everyone else can clearly see, the love her best friend, Mitch, carries in his heart for her. When her dead grandmother's high school boyfriend returns to town for his class reunion, his immediate attraction to Francesca is a game changer. Can Mr. Long - and his wealth - open up undreamed of opportunities for Francesca's future, and at what price?

Reckless treasure is a coming of age story following Francesca, a young teen who is close to high school graduation and planning her future. Her main motive being to get away from the life that she was born in to with her materialistic and narcissistic mother and slimy twin brother. A kerb is hit when she bumps into a well off stranger who recognises her face.
I'm at a little bit at a cross roads with this story. It took me a while to get into it but once I got to grips with the characters I got really into it. Each chapter is told through a different character's eyes, sometimes multiple:
We have Francesca: the main heroine of the story, whose determination to leave the life she has keeps the story going.
Mitch: Francesca's best friend who is from a much richer family and ironically head over heels for her, he's a fairly likeable character but a bit of a wet blanket.
Francie: Francesca's 'mother' the term being used loosely because you never actually see a mothering side to her, she spends the whole book either rolling in the sheets with the neighbour or trying to worm her way into a higher class group.
Francesca's twin brother Ricky was likely the one that i liked reading out the most. he was a slimy character whose thoughts solely focused on girls breasts and people's money.
We then had other characters who I didn't really see the need to know the points of view of:
Neighbour Jerry: in love with Francesca and blows off steam by sleeping with Francie. Likeable but useless.
Mr Long: A stranger who is besotted with Francesca the minute he meets her as she's the image of her grandmother, aka, his first love. A sweet man who is often the tamer of flames throughout the book.
Ashley: New girl in the neighbourhood who develops a crush on Mitch...I'm not actually sure any other reason why she's in the book.
Jane: Ashley's stepmother. A bit of a snob but wanting to fit in with the neighbours after recently moving.
Trisha: another character I quite liked. Francesca's other close friend. Recently became pregnant and gave up a baby but didn't let that phase her sassy personality.
I felt like we were focusing on so many characters in a fairly small book, not very often did we delve into pasts or reasons why characters were the way they were. I found them to be quite one dimensional and not very developed so struggled to find much of an opinion on any of them.
The different story lines and characters motives made it flow quite nicely and I was interested to see what would happen...the problem was, nothing really did. We reached the climax of the story probably about half hour before the book ended and it lasted all of about 5 minutes.
I feel that Wolfe is getting this story prepped for the following one where we'll hopefully have more of an outcome for the characters than we had.
I read some reviews after finishing this book and one person had called it 'The romantic equivalent to Game of Thrones'...if that's what you're looking for I wouldn't suggest this book. The only resemblance to the GoT books is the different character perspectives.
I think this would be a great book for coming of age teens (warning there are some sexual references but nothing really very heavy). There's not really a whole lot of romance in it but I feel like it's building up and setting the scene. It does seem to be more of a prequel for what I think is going to come from the next book.
With the majority of the characters being female, I would have preferred to have a female narrator. However Greg Young does a good enough job.
I did enjoy reading this book. Some characters I enjoyed more than others but it did kind of feel like a tv programme with the different goings on and different story lines did often become quite refreshing from others. I would have liked to have focused on main characters a little more and learned a little more about them. I'd have also liked a little more drama but it's filled with teen dilemmas and fun parties so this would be good for younger readers who are getting into romance. I'd have absolutely loved this in my teens. :)
Not much happens but good for teens

This book has a lot of drama , some of the character's , I so would slap into next week. Lots happening , so make sure you listen. We have a naïve teenage girl, with many challenges to face, including a horrible scheming family and not so wonderful friends,
Enjoyed

First off I absolutely LOVE the innocence of Francesca and Mitch, I was drawn in to their characters right from the beginning, but it seemed as if they were a little too naïve for their age. Francie was aggravating and irritating and I felt as if I was in the book feeling all of the angst and drama along with the characters, she was annoying in her ways and the way she was so childish with everything, especially how jealous she was of Francesca. Then there was Ricky, he just made my skin crawl. Jerry too for that matter, I hated him and his ways from the start. Mr. Long was sweet and loving and everything you expect out of a true gentleman and I fell in love with him from the beginning, even if he was a little misguided with his affection in the beginning, but I loved that he could see Francesca for who she was. This book leaves you waiting for the other shoe to drop so to speak, and the agony, love, and every other emotion in between was there and right at the forefront the entire time. This wasn't the HEA I was hoping for and it left me wanting more. I am hoping there is a second book because I just HAVE to know... What happens next?! The ending left more questions than answers for me and seemed a little abrupt and like there was something missing..
The narrator did a great job and his voice that he used for Ricky was exactly what I was expecting. He did a great job, especially with the amount of characters he had to voice and portray.
Left me wanting more
