Climate change could be categorized as the most pervasive yet least understood issue of our generation. Governments have been trying to come to terms with this for over twenty years and have little to show for their efforts; emissions just continue to rise, yet at some point during this century they have to return to zero - from 40 billion tons per annum today. A few argue that this will be easy; just get rid of fossil fuels and the problem is solved. But we need the energy these fuels provide for everything we do, use, make, and buy. Nothing currently comes even close to offering a universal replacement.

The solutions lie within our grasp; it's just a question of whether we want to use them. But from Canberra to Capetown and Washington to Warsaw, controversy abounds.
