Listener received this title free

This was the post apocalyptic book that I expected book 1 to be. On the plus side the story was more interesting - think Handmaid’s Tale mixed with 1984. All the usual tropes were here: religious nut jobs, men seizing power through violence. Etc etc. I guess American people might “get” and enjoy the description of guns but I find that tedious and I found the last part dragged a bit. I would have also liked more about how the world felt and worked without animals and less about power hungry men. The interesting story is exactly HOW they deal with food, electricity, clean water etc. not much said about any of that.

I wasn’t bowled over by the characters in the first book. 4 years on and they didn’t really grow on me.

It was ok though and I will listen to the last one in the trilogy.
