I found this to be quite different in style to Wilkie Collins other books but I still really enjoyed it! Only complaint is the male actor of the main character and his occasional strange pronunciation, which I found a bit distracting/irritating (eg pronouncing 'marry' as 'merry') but that's just a minor, probably pedantic, point

Silver nitrate may well give someone a blue discolouration although compared to much disfigurement it would be comparatively minor.
Does it really suppress epileptic fits? I doubt it.
As with so much 19th cent literature the book is verbose and unnecessarily long. For example, having established that the Revd Finch was a loquacious bore it was not necessary to write his endless diatribes verbatim each time he spoke.
The underlying tale was quite profound, she was happier being blind. Happiness is a very individual state of mind.
