About this listen

Unlock the Hidden Power of Your Nervous System — Calm Anxiety, Heal Trauma, and Build Lasting Resilience

Have you ever wondered why your heart races before a meeting, why you freeze in conflict, or why stress seems impossible to shake? These aren’t flaws or weaknesses — they’re signals from your nervous system.

In Polyvagal Theory Made Simple, psychologist and educator Dr. Claire Weston takes the ground breaking science of Polyvagal Theory and translates it into clear, practical language anyone can understand. With compassion and clarity, she shows you how your body responds to stress, why anxiety and trauma are not personal failures, and how you can retrain your nervous system to move from survival into safety.

Inside this book, you’ll discover:

  • The three nervous system states that shape your emotions, energy, and relationships
  • Why anxiety is your “stuck accelerator” — and how to release it
  • How trauma and shutdown are survival strategies, not signs of weakness
  • Simple, everyday habits to regulate stress and expand resilience
  • A 30-day nervous system reset plan to restore calm and clarity
  • Tools to improve relationships, set boundaries, and experience deeper connection

Whether you’re struggling with anxiety, recovering from trauma, or simply feeling worn down by life’s pressures, this book offers both understanding and hope. You’ll gain practical tools you can use right away — from breathing patterns and posture shifts to co-regulation practices and daily rituals — all designed to help you return to safety, balance, and peace of mind.

Grounded in science yet filled with warmth, Polyvagal Theory Made Simple is more than a guidebook — it’s an invitation to see your body not as the enemy, but as your greatest ally in healing.

If you’re ready to calm your nervous system, improve your relationships, and live with greater resilience and ease — this book is for you.

It’s refreshing to have a doctor explain this complex theory, where the vagus nerve and the gut–brain axis are presented as key contributors to anxiety and depression. I’ve read other books on the topic (many of them are great) but I often doubt them because I don’t know the credentials of the writer. That makes me unsure whether the suggested practices are safe, effective, or simply a waste of time. I’m very picky about the sources of the audiobooks I listen to, and when that information isn’t clear, I usually skip them.

This audiobook covers the usual topics, how the nervous system works, how anxiety develops, and exercises to help with regulation, but it also goes further. It includes subjects often missed by other books, such as a structured plan to reset the nervous system and, more importantly, how to build long-term balance to become more resilient and avoid falling back into old patterns. Everything is presented from the perspective of a qualified professional, which I deeply appreciate.

I recommend it as a complement to therapy if you want to try new things beyond your sessions and don’t want to fall into the trap of unqualified babblers.
