About this listen

On July 22, 2009, a special meeting was held with 24 leading scientists at the National Institutes of Health to discuss early findings that a newly discovered retrovirus was linked to chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), prostate cancer, lymphoma, and eventually neurodevelopmental disorders in children. When Dr. Judy Mikovits finished her presentation the room was silent for a moment, then one of the scientists said, "Oh my God!" The resulting investigation would be like no other in science. For Dr. Mikovits, a 20-year veteran of the National Cancer Institute, this was the midpoint of a five-year journey that would start with the founding of the Whittemore-Peterson Institute for Neuro-Immune Disease at the University of Nevada, Reno, and end with her as a witness for the federal government against her former employer, Harvey Whittemore, for illegal campaign contributions to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. On this journey, Dr. Mikovits would face the scientific prejudices against CFS, wander into the minefield that is autism, and through it all struggle to maintain her faith in God and the profession to which she had dedicated her life. This is a story for anybody interested in the peril and promise of science at the very highest levels in our country.

Unbelievable story a Dr. Judy is a strong minded lady with care for humanity to which she deducted her work and life.

Highly recommend to read and uncover how corrupted whole medical world is.

How rare to find a scientist as honest as Judy Mikovits. The risks she takes in the name of science are extraordinary. Balls bigger than any bloke in this male dominated industry. Well done for writing such a thorough account of corruption in the industries of science and medicine. I look forward to reading ‘plague of corruption’.

Judy is a hero

I have thoroughly enjoyed being enlightened to the truth of the cause of many of todays chronic illnesses. Thank you so much to the authors for writing this book.
There is a heroine & villains but this is no fairy tale.
Brain fog made it difficult for me to read and so I took advantage of the audible edition too.
It is important for suffers as well as friends & family members, to know & understand the devastation of CFS.
JUDY MIKOVITS is right there is a God & there will be justice.
The world needs to know!

The narrator sounds very metallic and disinterested, like a monotonous robot, more akin to a good text-to-speech engine where the pronunciation has been mastered than an engaged human being. This is most unfortunate because the story is quite intense to follow and would have been transformed by a reader who sounded like they were actually alive. After listening to some fantastic audiobook narration, this was a disappointment; doubly so because the story is of some importance and the reader should be encouraged to work through it.

There is quite a bit of the story to pay attention to including the back-story, the science, the dynamic between all the different actors, and the linear explanation of events. Therefore, it may necessitate putting up with the voice. Nevertheless, the benefit of sticking with it is worth it simply for what you will learn.

A story everyone should, unfortunate flat delivery

Plague is as much about a plague of socio-economic injustice as it is about a retro-virus plague.

It helped to shatter some of my illusions/conditioning I have that; based on this book Plague: it took two weeks to put this innocent scientist directly in prison without a court-hearing, and two years for her to make it so that integrity, truth and reality saw the light of day as she competed against the behind-the-scenes socio-economic interpersonal power pressuring a judge to put her in prison.

Thank goodness I haven’t had to go through all that myself.

It all seems to come down to what socio-economically powerful people can say, make happen, and can cover up with a money-corrupted legal system.

Instead of integrity telling people’s life-story it’s socio-economic power telling people’s life-story. Sad but true.

I found it more about the inter-personal tensions and dramas than about the XMRV plague which I was more interested in for health reasons.

The narrator’s voice sounded a bit silly-movie-voice to me.

I can’t believe this is non-fiction book, it’s a real drama.
