Story
Period Power is a profound but practical blueprint for aligning daily life with the menstrual cycle, to give all menstruators a no-nonsense explanation of what the hell happens to us every month and how we can use each phase to its full advantage. Ninety per cent of people who have periods experience symptoms of PMS, a syndrome which features a wide range of signs and symptoms, and yet there's an enduring lack of understanding about what it actually is and a disappointingly meagre range of treatment options.

Why do you lose arguments with people who know MUCH LESS than you? Why can you recognise that woman, from that thing...but can't remember her name? And why, after your last break-up, did you find yourself in the foetal position on the sofa for days, moving only to wipe the snot and tears haphazardly from your face? Here's why: the idiot brain. Summary
An empowering guide to make perimenopause and menopause a positive experience.
During perimenopause three quarters of women will experience symptoms such as mood changes, insomnia, hot flushes and night sweats, but there is little in the way of evidence-based information out there to help and guide us. Perimenopause Power is the essential handbook to understanding what the hell's going on and to empower us to improve our experience of the dreaded 'change'.
Maisie Hill, the highly qualified women's health expert, best-selling author of Period Power and founder of The Flow Collective, takes us through the physiological changes of perimenopause and menopause, step by step, with calm positivity. In this invaluable guide she shares tips and advice to support women through the challenge of wildly fluctuating hormones.
A must-listen for anyone looking for a well-researched, evidenced-based book on perimenopause and menopause that gives women the information they need to address their hormonal needs. Perimenopause Power will help women to understand what's going on with their bodies and how to deal with troublesome symptoms, and share valuable insights into making it a positive and powerful experience.

In one ear and out the other I’m afraid
With my menopausal brain fog I need to be able to retain facts, something I was unable to do with this audio book. I found this a bit boring. I thought it would be funny and relatable but instead I found it overly scientific (lots of medical names, hormones etc) bits of it were good but then it seemed to slip back into explaining one hormone after the other, I’m never going to be able to recall any of it. I also found the odd swear word a bit incongruous, one minute she would be talking very medically then she’d say things like ‘moody as f***’ which didn’t seem in keeping somehow.

Biased and badly read
One of my pet hates is authors who insist on reading their own material. I should’ve followed my own bias in this respect and not bought this book. To be fair, I’ve heard much less engaging narrations.
As for the content, it’s neither one thing nor another - or even a third! It purports to be accessible but throwing in chummy language doesn’t make it so. The technical/scientific content is considerable but patchy, with some topics being dismissed in barely a few sentences. And it’s certainly not objective - the author’s clear preferences are continually on show: ending a critical opinion with phrases such as, “but you may not find it so” doesn’t alter the direction of the argument advanced.
I’ve tried picking it up more than once. I really want some unbiased, scientifically presented advice. I just can’t find it here and I’m disappointed to the point of irritation. And I only ever return books I find irritating- this is in a very small group of such disappointments.
