Story
My name is Peter Grant, and until January, I was just probationary constable in that mighty army for justice known to all right-thinking people as the Metropolitan Police Service (and as the Filth to everybody else). My only concerns in life were how to avoid a transfer to the Case Progression Unit - we do paperwork so real coppers don't have to - and finding a way to climb into the panties of the outrageously perky WPC Leslie May. Then one night, in pursuance of a murder inquiry, I tried to take a witness statement from someone who was dead but disturbingly voluble....

Story
An eerie and compelling ghost story set on the dark wilds of the Yorkshire moors. For fans of The Witchfinder's Sister or The Silent Companions, this Gothic tale will weave its way into your imagination and chill you to the bone. Maybe you've heard tales about Scarcross Hall, the house on the old coffin path that winds from village to moor top. They say there's something up here, something evil. Mercy Booth isn't afraid. The moors and Scarcross are her home and lifeblood.

Story
Thirteen years ago, Winter Black came home early from a sleepover to find her parents brutally murdered and her little brother gone — taken by a serial killer called The Preacher. Now a rookie FBI agent assigned to her first murder case, Winter has returned to the small Virginia town where she grew up. But when bones found by a hunter lead to the discovery of a secret burial ground containing the remains of children, the investigation suddenly hits close to home as the past and future collide with each new shocking discovery.
Summary
No matter how hard life is, humanity has the power to make it bearable -- or worse. Parliament of Rooks, the new historical paranormal novel in the award-winning Yorkshire Ghosts series, contrasts the beautiful, inspiring village of Haworth today with the slum -- or rookery -- it was during the industrial revolution: rife with disease, heartache, poverty, and child slavery in the mills. In 2017, life expectancy in the UK is 81. In 1848 Haworth, it was 22. Nine-year-old Harry Sutcliff hates working at Rooks Mill and is forever in trouble for running away to the wide empty spaces of the moors -- empty but for the song of the skylark, the antics of the rabbits, and the explorations of Emily Brontë. Bound together by their love of the moors, Emily and Harry develop a lasting friendship, but not everyone is happy about it -- especially Martha, Harry's wife. As Martha's jealous rages grow in ferocity, Harry does not realize the danger he is in. A hundred and fifty years later, this danger also threatens Verity and her new beau, William. Only time will tell if Verity and William have the strength to fight off the ghosts determined to shape their lives, or whether they will succumb to an age-old betrayal. The Yorkshire Ghost Stories are all stand-alone, complete books, and can be listened to in any order.

Fancy a trip to Haworth?
I initially struggled with this book; the narration was oh-so-slow and ridiculously over enunciated but maybe this is because I live close to the area and am all too familiar with the accent. Speeding up the narration helped out hugely.
The story was interesting and I really enjoyed it. All in all a good spooky tale.

Good read!
Put simply, I really enjoyed this book.
I love the Brontes and Haworth and so the subject matter drew me initially. However, it was the intermingling of past and present that kept me totally involved.
Will be seeking other works from this author. The narration in the flat Yorkshire accent was just perfect and made me rethink my perceptions of the Brontes entirely.

Great story
Great story when read in my own head!
The narration is is absolutely awful..which gets slower and slower, and so childlike, and totally over the top . It spoilt the story and I was playing with the speed continuously throughout ..love reading Karen's books love them all, but won't buy another audio book from now on it goes on in my head.

So disappointed
As above, I have been very disappointed with this book.
The narration was appalling! Fleur Edwards reads in a very child like manner.
The story is more of a historical look at Howarth which was ok. I found the tale to be rambling at times and the author has not managed to add the atmosphere or the suspense when the ghosts make an appearance.
Such a shame as all the reviews rated this book as great.

Brontë Country brought to life
I bought this book because I love Haworth and all things Brontë. At first it was fun because I knew all the venues, the pubs, the shops etc but then I became engrossed in the story. Quite honestly didnt want to stop listening and was bereft when it finished. I hope there will be more in the series. Absolutely loved it.
