Story
A dedicated group of Orthodox monks (who wish to remain anonymous) have created a fresh English translation of the Masoretic Hebrew text of the Psalter, corrected to the Septuagint. A frequently asked question: The Psalms aren't in numerical order in this Psalter. Why is that? Answer: That was done intentionally. This edition of the Psalter was created for prayer, at home or in church, rather than for reference. It's not just another Book of Psalms.

Story
Welcome to the Orthodox Church - its history, theology, worship, spirituality, and daily life. This friendly guide provides a comprehensive introduction to Orthodoxy, but with a twist: listeners learn by making a series of visits to a fictitious church, and get to know the faith as new Christians did for most of history, by immersion. Mathews-Green provides commentary and explanations on everything from how to "venerate" an icon, the Orthodox understanding of the atonement, to the Lenten significance of tofu.

Story
In the earliest centuries of faith, Christians in the deserts of Palestine and Africa sought a short prayer that could be easily repeated, in order to acquire the habit of "prayer without ceasing." The result was The Jesus Prayer: "Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me." This jewel of Eastern Christianity aims at enabling a person to be in God's presence, rather than to focus on feelings or thoughts about God.

Story
Anyone who prays or has tried to pray and given up in discouragement knows praying, really praying, is not easy. Praying consistently seems almost impossible. Too often and too easily, prayer becomes a burden: one more item on an already overcrowded to-do list. Failing to pray becomes a source of guilt and stress as we must once again admit our inconstancy and procrastination to our father confessor. The purpose of this audiobook, then, is not to add to the burden, but to ease it by distilling the advice and experience of those who pray.

Story
In an audiobook eagerly awaited by her growing retinue of fans, she brings listeners inside the world's oldest Christian faith, illuminating Eastern Orthodoxy in a manner similar to Kathleen Norris's exploration of Benedictine spirituality. An ex-hippie and former social radical, the author often writes humorously about her unusual road from Woodstock to the altar of an Orthodox church, where she is the pastor's wife.

Summary
The Orthodox Christian tradition is filled with wisdom and guidance about the biblical path of salvation. Yet this guidance remains largely inaccessible to parents and often disconnected from the parenting challenges we face in our homes. Parenting Toward the Kingdom will help you make the connections between the spiritual life as we understand it in the Orthodox Church and the ongoing challenges of raising children. It takes the best child development research and connects it with the timeless truths of our Christian faith to offer you real strategies for navigating the challenges of daily life.

Phenomenal book!
As a pastor and parent I have found this book to be down to earth and thoroughly inspiring. There are a lot of parenting books out there but this one joins the best from psychology, scripture and the Church Fathers. I believe all Christian parents ought to read this book and to strive to live out the principles that it so clearly sets forth.

The best parenting book I've read
This is the first parenting book I have read that truly respects who we are as a family growing together in Christ. no systems or gimmicks. Just firm limits, realistic expectations, and calling us to repentance when our kids (as well as ourselves) fall short. I'll give this to all the new parents in my life, and I only wish it had been written when we had our first child!

Very best child-rearing book *ever*.
This was the most helpful and inspiring book. Also a great eye-opener. I intend to listen to it over and over, at intervals, for as long as my children are growing up under my care.

Excellent parenting book
I'd already read this, but I like to leave it playing in the background at home to remind me to be a better parent. I don't yell as much anymore and it's improved my relationship with my kids.

Great book - on parental self-control !
There are no quick fixes or “perfect” solutions to sibling fights and quarreling. But there is a perfect, loving Heavenly Father who is kind and long-suffering. I think the author points parents to model Him and to point their kids toward the Kingdom!

Awesome Book
I’m a single father of 3 and wasn’t sure I was up to the task. This book was extremely helpful. I feel like I will not be a perfect parent, but at least know what to be shooting for and how to approach it, trusting God with the outcome. Highly recommend this book.

Very beneficial and practical!
I find it very beneficial, as it gives the general guidelines to parents and church servants about what to expect from children, and from ourselves. Also, it points at what our goals should be in every intentional interaction with children.
And, it has many practical examples, which brings it to life.
Highly recommended!
