Great story, made even better by great narration
When I read the eBook version, I said of this book that, "This book is a beautifully written and very enjoyable read." I still feel that way about the story itself. Add to that the wonderful narration, and you have an excellent listening experience.

Bravo!
Gosh, this really was one of the best thought provoking stories that I have read or listened to.
Just goes to show what generosity, compassion and unselfishness is all about.
The characters are all strong and though its a very short story, it has loads of punch. I was saddened, disgusted, amazed and made happy again in under an hour of the telling of this tale which is brought alive by the narration of the very talented Melanie Fraser.
I was supplied with the audiobook version by the narrator and this is my unbiased review.

A Terrific Short Story About War and Walls
"Outside the Walls" was a terrific yet bittersweet story about war and walls. I think Alexandra Butcher and Diana Wicker did a nice job writing this and hope they continue. I loved the protagonist Duchess Eleanor and while her husband was away at war she tried to help others. Havenforth was a wonderful setting and overall, I really enjoyed this book.
Melanie Fraser was THE perfect narrator for this story. I loved her soft voice with spot on inflections. She made the story complete. I hope to hear more from her in the future. She definitely goes on my favorite reader list.

A Tale of Love and Compassion!
Any additional comments?
This short story is not only one of compassion, but one that teaches us the importance of helping those in need. The young duchess wanted to help the many refugees outside the walls who were wounded and hungry, but she soon found a surprise she never expected. A surprise that both shocked her and took breath away! What a wonderful ending to this story!!!
I enjoyed listening to the narrator and I was soon taken into a new world by her enchanting voice. Well done, Melanie Fraser!

So much packed into an hour!
This was a great quick listen. I especially loved it for the strong female lead character of Eleanor. Without her persistence and skill, those outside the wall would have definitely perished.
This story is during times of war. Eleanor, Duchess of Haversham, is furious that the Council, who rules her city has shut it's doors to the refugees of the war. She and her cousin Lynette, make their way out beyond the walls with provisions to help those in need. While on her quest, she sees horrible things, trying to help as many as she can. Lynette comes upon a soldier, who in turns asks her to help another. The other turns out to be someone of importance(not wanting to have too much of a spoiler).
The results of their quest outside the walls is able to bring peace. This short story was both devastating and happy. The writing is very descriptive and you can picture all that they see.
Melanie Frasier narrates this novella. As usual, she brings a full on cast with her variety of voices making the story a wonderful listen.

This is an okay short listen. It is a tale of war and refuges. There is also a surprise in the tale.
The narration is nicely done and fits the primary character.
