Award-winning author William Kent Krueger has gained an immense fan base for his Cork O’Connor series. In Ordinary Grace, Krueger looks back to 1961 to tell the story of Frank Drum, a boy on the cusp of manhood. A typical 13-year-old with a strong, loving family, Frank is devastated when a tragedy forces him to face the unthinkable - and to take on a maturity beyond his years.

Absolutely loved this book and the narration by Rich Orlow made the characters and and wonderful descriptions of the Drum family and residents of New Bremen come alive. This book will stay with me for a long time.

Small town America in the 1960s. A tale of gentle folk, all of whom carry their own burdens and heroes who overcome the burdens with dignity and honour.

A pleasure to listen to.

A fan of the Cork O’Connor books so I knew the writing would be good. It has a feeling of a few different books - Of Mice and Men, Stand By Me or To Kill a Mockingbird. Small town prejudices, the preacher is a father who tries to rein in jumping to conclusions, whilst dealing with his own loss. Two brothers, very close and trying to deal with things they don’t understand. I guessed early on the outcome but that didn’t diminish. A good listen.

A tale of small town living

I came across this title in the plus catalogue and had already read Iron Lake by the same author, so having read the ‘about this listen’ and and a quick preview of the narrator, I decided it would be an easy listen while doing other tasks. I couldn’t have been more wrong, I couldn’t stop. I was enthralled - totally immersed in the characters and their lives. They were all so real. I just loved it. Not least, the narrator was perfect.
