Having been in the British Army for more than two decades, I can relate to Leslie Thomas’ trio of ‘Virgin Soldiers’ books. I encountered these wonderful books in my teens, many years ago. Funny and ironic, this the Second installment is on par if not better than its Brilliant predecessor.
This time John Brigg is a Regular Sergeant, serving in the melting pot of British Hong Kong. As usual there are some wildly funny characters, that could almost be real. Also as in the previous book, there is also a lot of tenderness and empathy that creeps in between the humour. The Late Author Leslie Thomas, whose writings are well worth reading. This is fantastically relevant it captures the spirit and energy of the period. Highly Recommended.
