About this listen

In Canberra, a federal election looms and Cassius Calvert, Minister for Border Integrity, is facing a new hard-line policy regarding asylum-seekers. Off the Indonesian island of Dana, Isi Natoli, skipper of the Java Ridge, and a group of Australian surf tourists are anchored beside an idyllic reef. A few kilometres away, Roya and her mother are amongst the passengers fleeing persecution aboard the Talakar. When a storm breaks, these stories collide with chilling consequences....

Spot on narration, moving story.
Not quite as compelling as Backyard Cricket but completely worth a credit.

Brilliant storytelling and narration

I was moved and upset at the same time. Not only a well written novel with a great story line but a deep insight into race and prejudice. Wasn't sure the author could
emulate The Rules of Cricket but he has shown himself to be a truly great author.

superb and harrowing read

Listened to this after being blown away by Backyard Cricket and it's just totally different. Political. Menacing. Slow moving. No humour at all. It's a tough listen. Felt similar to the Secret City trilogy. I don't know. The cricket story felt real. This felt like a provocative tale.

Slow going, heavy

Good grief! In what universe would a private company destroy a boat with a load of people on. Preposterous- Jack Serong’s penchant for the shocking ending ruined the book.
