About this listen

The air-boys are gone. At least that’s what people keep saying. Yet when Cameron Herrick discovers something that should not be there in a dead girl’s room, he begins to question many of the things he has been told.

The world is at peace. Extreme poverty has been eliminated and a looming environmental collapse has been averted. The mighty Subah Corporation whose green technology inspired this new age is more trusted than governments. Its only remaining critics are those who lost fortunes and influence with the demise of the old petro-fueled order. There were others but the air-boys are gone.

The world building is excellent in this quick paced adventure story. We are immediately immersed in the near future world which is strangely reassuring in its similarities with today, the way the politics and capitalism tracks; you can see the path from now to this future, and how humanity has muddled through and managed to find a solution to the climate crisis. Or big business has, started by an entrepreneur. Not perfect, but a solution. Also how individuals relate to that society, with some rebelling, some taking advantage, but the majority making their peace. It's a prescient, pacey read, with a global outlook that's refreshingly anti the gloom and pessimism of the current times.

An absorbing and pacey near future dystopian adventure
