About this listen

The people we love are thieves. They steal our hearts. They steal our breath. They steal our sanity. And we let them. Over and over and over again.

They say you never forget your first love.

Mine was a homeless musician who wandered straight into my soul.

He was my first everything. And fourteen years later, I still can't get him out of my head.

He broke all my rules. He also broke my heart.

I watched him climb to stardom, cheering him on from afar. But I was never a fan; just a girl in love.

Like a tornado, he spiraled, leaving a path of destruction in his wake.

But love conquers all, right? It has to. Because here I stand, ravaged and ruined, needing it to be true.

We can't go back, but I want to. Back to the park. Back to when he sang only for me. Before he was famous. Before he shattered my heart.

I thought I knew everything about him. But I could not have been more wrong.

He promised me every tomorrow. And here I am, waiting.

And hoping.

Again.

Contains mature themes.

A little bit of everything in this. Lovely emotional romantic story that touches on mental health issues.

Very emotional

I liked how different Piper was to most of us. So able to love even when she was hurting. The book was kind of inspiring in that regard. Her character is a bit annoying though. She’s a ‘fixer’. I found the mental health aspect interesting if a bit heavy at times. Made me think a lot about a friend who has struggled. I enjoyed the book a lot but if I had known the story line I don’t think I would have been brave enough to choose it. Good to be made to think about mental health in a more dynamic way though.

Well written and narrated. A heavy storyline

This was very emotional and thought out story, it’s long but in depth so it highlights love and its trials when dealing with someone with mental health issues. I really enjoyed this story and my heart went out to piper more than once in this story.

What a rollercoaster, full of emotion, the narrators were excellent and brought the characters to life

Loved, loved, loved

I feel like these characters will be with me for a while. I loved it, the narrators were amazing and the story was so deep and thought provoking. Blue and Pipers love story was full of highs and lows, and the mental health struggles were demonstrated really well throughout the book and written in an accurate and sympathetic way. This book is deep (check TW), it had me in tears more times than I can count but if you’re looking for something with a powerful love story and have a couple of days to dedicate to it (you won’t be able to stop listening once you start!) I would highly recommend giving it a listen.

I found the start quite slow, but once I was over half way I couldn’t get enough and found every excuse to pop my headphones back in and continue listening. I loved how the second half of the book gave lots of references to the first half, so sometimes when it felt like certain chapters had a lot of detail, I was glad of it towards the end when lots of things clicked into place.

If you’re thinking of listening or reading, I would make a suggestion to avoid searching it on TikTok/Instagram until you’ve finished it as loads of accounts have put major spoilers out there without any warning so as soon as you search the title you’ll see two major plot lines straight away.

Loved it
