About this listen

After her rescue of nearly 50 kidnapped children made international headlines, Amara Alvarez gets what she's worked for: a transfer to San Antonio's Homicide Division. Reality sets in quickly, though, as her first case, the suspicious death of a teenager at a crowded local water park, brings chaos to her personal life.

As the investigation moves forward, and she increases the pressure on the suspects, Amara finds herself under attack by cybercriminals. Her every move is being potentially watched online, and she's forced to resort to unconventional methods to find the killer. With few leads, she fights to keep her first murder investigation from ending up in the cold case files.

Tom Threadgill is back with another riveting pause-resister featuring the detective who is willing to put everything on the line to see that justice is served and lives are protected.

A complex story investigating a sudden death in water of a teenager. Was it an accident? Toxicology is required and the circumstances emerge slowly as his friends are reluctant to talk to detectives. Search of their homes reveals their caches of money but it takes time to discover what has been going in the twilight world of the internet.

Intricate tale beautifully performed

This was a lot better than I thought it was gonna be, liked the main character, good premise, didn't loose interest before the end so 5 stars

Very Good

Tight prose, fast paced police procedural, a plot that evolves in a plausible way together with excellent characterisation. What’s not to like?

Excellent

This is a lovely listen with a bunch of likeable characters and a clever style where the main characters inner thoughts pop up regularly during conversations in a very funny way.

The main investigation is interesting but it's the well drawn character interactions that make it a bit special.

Great writing and Narrator
