About this listen

When Tim Harding agrees to do a friend a favour by bidding for an antique ring at an auction on his behalf, he is unaware of the secrets tied up with it - secrets that date back three hundred years.

But the ring is stolen before it can be sold, and a shocking murder follows. Harding is quickly thrown into a web of conspiracies surrounding the ring's origins. As he draws closer to the heart of the mystery, he comes across a young woman he is certain he recognizes, even though they have never met.

But as he goes in search of her identity, his life begins to fall apart. Somewhere, a perilous truth awaits him, coupled with a terrible realization: those who uncover that truth cannot be allowed to live...

I really dislike the narrator. sounds like he's never read a book before. absolutely awful performance.

terrible narrator

Out of 70 audio books this is the first that I have struggled to stay with. At the end of chapter 24 I gave up and couldn't listen to any more. The book itself is fine I read it back in 2011, It's a good Goddard yarn. The performance however left me cringing at some of the characters voices.
Extremely disappointing.

Probably best to READ this book

The usual great story from RG with some really interesting historical thrills but seriously spoilt by the narration. It was so bad I thought the guy was having a laugh!!!
I agree with previous review maybe best to read this one .

Disappointing

As usual this is a great story by RG, but in this case it has been unfortunately ruined by a terrible narrator. His intonation is all wrong , making quite simple sentences almost incomprehensible. Such a shame.

Terrible narrator - do not listen to this bbv

This book is excellent, as are all Robert Goddard books. It is badly let down by the narration, which was dreadful. Because of peculiar intonation, some parts were unintelligible and the efforts to use other accents were painful to hear. It was so poor that one was distracted from the fantastic story. In future I will be sure to avoid any books with this narrator. My overall rating for this book was dragged to a lowly 3 stars entirely because of the narration.

Good Book, Dreadful Narration
