Summary
Sam is 17, starving herself and longing for oblivion. Her sister, Jena, is mentally scarred and desperate to remember. Between them, they share secrets too terrible to recall.

Slow burner
Great story that starts off fairly slow but builds momentum and pace to a great finale. This was my first book by this author but won't be my last. Special mention must go to Henrietta Meire who narrated it perfectly.

Too fast!
The story is gripping however the performance was way too fast. I kept checking I hadn't put it on 1.5x by mistake

You do not expect this book to where it does it had me hooked on every word a must read
Amazing story line with excellent writing i couldn't put it down the story twists at every page I never suspected the ending it was not predictable at all this author is talented x

Utterly Predictable
While this offers an interesting insight into the life and motivation of an anorexic, the story itself was written by numbers. I had worked out who did it and why by about two hours into the reading.
There was no audible delineation between what was happening 'now', what Sam was 'merely' thinking about in the the past and what she was 'chatting' to Clive about. Maybe, in the book, these are shown by different fonts or type styles but, at times, it became a little confusing. Then there was the increasingly irritating way of saying dates - and there are a lot of dates - for example, "twenty-fifth January", "fifteenth April" instead of "the twenty-fifth of January" or "the fifteenth of April". This, coupled with the excruciating accents, which were so hit and miss - considerably more miss than hit, made it a painful listen at times.
It was OK and passed a few days' journeys to and from work, but I don't think I'll be rushing to buy anything else from either the author or the narrator.

Brilliant
Loved this book was hooked on story and was kept guessing for ages thought reader portrayed characters perfectly was sorry when it ended.

Good story, poor narration
What did you like best about this story?
Not so much a whodunit but a 'what has she done?', the main character of this crime story is being treated for anorexia in a hospital special unit. While the crime story had enough twists to hold my attention, the aspect that really fascinated me was the insight into the mind, motives and tricks of someone suffering from this distressing condition.
How could the performance have been better?
There were times when I wondered whether the narrator really was a professional actor. While she did a reasonable job with Sam, the main character, she fell down badly with other characters including the worst Scottish accent I've ever heard (it had touches of Lancashire and heaven knows what else!) and two appalling eastern Europeans. The psychologist was pretend posh and Sam's mother and sister were both squeaky and shrill. This was extremely off putting and made it difficult for me to imagine the characters.
Could you see My Sister and Other Liars being made into a movie or a TV series? Who would the stars be?
I think this would make a great TV series, with the opportunity to film the claustrophobia of the hospital unit as well as lots of different locations as Sam describes her search for the truth. Sam and her fellow patients are teenagers so would probably be unknowns. Tom Burke (Cormoran Strike) would make a great psychiatrist and Lesley Sharp could play mum.
