About this listen

In Season 2 of My Mom’s Murder, Lauren Malloy’s search for justice in her mother's 1993 death reaches a critical turning point.

Long-awaited DNA results from her mother’s exhumation spark a new wave of questions. Old recordings, buried family history, and a renewed connection with Louise—the woman who first set her on this path—push Lauren ever closer to the truth. Along the way, suspicion begins to circle someone she never expected: her Aunt Alyson, the woman who raised her.

As she pieces together the past, Lauren navigates tense confrontations, shocking discoveries, and devastating losses that threaten to derail her pursuit. Alongside her own case, she amplifies the voice of other families fighting for justice, drawing powerful parallels to her own story.

Season 2 continues Lauren’s relentless real-time investigation that tests the limits of loyalty, resilience, and truth—pushing Lauren closer than ever to uncovering who killed Lori Malloy, and why.

This brave, authentic, honest series is brilliant. Lauren has a way of telling this story that makes you feel like you’re there with her every step of the way. It’s fascinating, heartbreaking and inspiring. Well worth the listen!

What a rollercoaster!

I’m not sure why I kept listening, I think I was hoping that Lauren would have a moment of real self-reflection and realise that what she was doing was totally inappropriate and that she was harassing incredibly vulnerable people. But instead you get to listen to her harass her mentally ill aunt until she dies alone in her apartment, after which she continues to use what appears to her aunts symptoms as “evidence” of her guilt. I appreciate that Lauren is grieving, appears to have been let down by the justice system, social services and family members, but this is a prime example of why amateur sleuthing can be so inappropriate. Especially when there are so many vulnerable people involved, the stigmatisation and misrepresentation of mental health is shocking. I fully appreciate the inadequacy and biases of law enforcement, as well as the lack of rehabilitation through prison particularly for those with mental health and substance (mis)use issues. But amateur sleuthing often mirrors those patterns and this podcast series fully reflects that. I’m also not sure why they cut in the unrelated story of the New Year’s Eve car crash death other than to pitch Lauren’s charity and further demonise mental illness. It’s a very sad and uncomfortable listen. I honestly hope she can leave it alone now and find some peace.

I loved Lauren's strength and determination to find out what had truly happen her mam, and also the love in Lauren's voice when she spoke about her mam.....

Strength determination and Love

If you listened to season 1 stop there.
Unfortunately the issues with Lauren's adopted Mum over crowd the sound judgement that was had in season 1. A lot of theories seem to come from pure hatred of her adopted Mother (who probably had mental issues and was not the a good person / 'Mum'). But frankly I was left cold by the continued blame. In the final minutes of the podcast I could not believe the callus, cold, horrid things Lauren was saying mainly due to her spinning out from her own conspiracy theories.
